The Price John McCain Paid Per Vote on Tuesday (Literally)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

So, considering the $21 million cost of his campaign, the septuagenarian maverick paid approximately $74.64 per vote.

To put this desperation in perspective, McCain's 2008 presidential campaign spent $293 million for 58.3 million votes, averaging $5.03 per lever-pull. For his 1982 congressional campaign, McCain spent $550,000 for 89,116 votes, or $13.54/vote in inflation-adjusted dollars.

Of course, McCain still has to defeat Democrat Rodney Glassman in November to keep his Senate seat — but he probably won't break a sweat while doing so. Our advice to the heavily unfavored newcomer: start buying lottery tickets immediately.

I wish one of her close associates around here would ask her if she agrees with McCain on this too!! Maybe they can lockup some more land in Alaska to get her attention.

Locking up lands is a payoff to the Saudis. They control America and TV now. Those now fed lands contain 4 to 5 times the energy reserves of the Saudis.

Tea Party members and Freepers need to initiate a nationwide ABM treaty with the GOP right now. Anyone But McCain!

Google the Quebec Act and read about its impact on the colony of Virginia. This one sounds sort of similar.

The Quebec Act moved the Canadian border down to the Ohio River and removed approximately 25,000 acres from the colony of Virgina, some of which belonged to George Washington. Needless to say, it got the Virginians all fired up. At the time the Continental Congress was debating the Declaration of Independence, the Virginia legislature had already passed a measure declaring its independence from Britan. Come hell or high water, the wanted to be decoupled from the monarchy even if they had to stand alone.

I can't believe Jeff Sessions would vote for anything that would compromise this Nation with regard to illegal alien incursion.

Every landowner along the border should start a new business - a firing range.

They could charge their fellow Americans a small fee to come down, face south, and plink away at targets. They could put up lights like the ones at the ballparks so “target practice” could continue all through the night.

If you think McCain won because of Sarah Palin’s endorsement, then you are even stupider than your recent posting history suggests, and that’s saying a lot.

Agreed...not too long ago, Sessions voted badly on an another item...strange indeed. Maybe he gave up fighting them.

Summary of s. 1689

Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks Wilderness Act - Designates specified wilderness areas in New Mexico and administered by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) as wilderness and as components of the National Wilderness Preservation System. Designates certain BLM land as a potential wilderness area, and upon publication of a notice in the Federal Register, as wilderness and as a component of such System and incorporated into the Robledo Mountains Wilderness. Releases certain public land in Dona Ana County that was not designated as wilderness by this Act from further study for designation as wilderness. Establishes certain BLM-managed lands in the county as the Organ Mountains and Desert Peaks National Conservation Areas. Requires the development of separate management plans for such areas. Transfers administrative jurisdiction over certain land from the Secretary of Defense to the Secretary of the Interior to become part of Organ Mountains National Conservation Area. Requires the Conservation Areas and the designated wilderness areas to be administered as components of the National Landscape Conservation System (NLCS). Withdraws the federal land within the Conservation Areas, the wilderness areas designated by this Act, and the land identified as parcel B from: (1) entry, appropriation, or disposal under the public land laws; (2) location, entry, and patent under the mining laws; and (3) operation of the mineral leasing, mineral materials, and geothermal leasing laws. Amends the Omnibus Public Land Management Act of 2009 to adjust the boundary of the Prehistoric Trackways National Monument.

The Organ Mountains Desert Peaks Wilderness Bill - S.1689

In 2009, Senator Jeff Bingaman (D-NM) and Senator Tom Udall (D-NM) have introduced federal Wilderness legislation for Dona Ana County, New Mexico. Community concern caused the Senators to hold a field hearing in Las Cruces on February 15, 2010. In June, 2010, a revised version of the legislation was put forward by Senator Bingaman, claiming to address concerns raised by the community about border security. This legislation imposes federal Wilderness designation, the most restrictive of all federal land management designations, on 241,400 acres of lands in Dona Ana County, along with 99,150 acres of National Conservation Area (NCA) designation.

This area is over 532 square miles of land, nearly 14% of Dona Ana County, and a little over half the size of the state of Rhode Island. Only seven percent of Dona Ana County is held privately.

“The presence of any wilderness on the Mexican border is a danger to the security of the United States” Jim Switzer, National Association of Former Border Patrol Officers

PFPOWH OPPOSES THIS LEGISLATION.

THIS LEGISLATION IS NOT IN THE BEST INTEREST OF OUR COMMUNITY, OUR STATE OR OUR COUNTY.

WHAT IS WILDERNESS DESIGNATION?

When land is designated as Federal Wilderness under the 1964 Wilderness Act, there are numerous prohibitions, such as:

* no permanent road within any Wilderness area
* no temporary road
* no use of motorized vehicles
* no mechanized equipment
* no landing of aircraft
* no form of mechanical transport
* no structure or installation

These prohibitions do not allow for Border Patrol or other law enforcement agencies to perform routine patrols in Wilderness. They can not utilize sensors, radio transmitters or microwave towers for surveillance in designated Wilderness. The only way for them to travel in the Wilderness is on foot or on horseback, unless it is deemed an emergency. There is a Memo of Understanding (MOU) between the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Department of Interior and U.S. Department of Agriculture that will allow emergency entry, but it has not been tested in New Mexico because there is not any designated Wilderness along the border.

See Wilderness On The Border to learn more about why PFPOWH and others in our community strongly oppose this detrimental legislation.

CLICK HERE for articles, news, maps and more information on S.1689 - the Organ Mountains Desert Peaks Wilderness Act.

Designating federal Wilderness in proximity to our international border is detrimental to our national security and undermines law enforcement activities.

As of July, 2010, more than 28,000 people have been killed in drug related violence since 2006. We do not want create a smuggling corridor in our county that will invite this type of criminal violence to move in to our community. Attacks on the Mexican government and civilians, including journalists, are escalating.

“Today, our National Security and overall Public Safety is under constant threat of assault in the border region between the United States and Mexico. Daily, the Americans that live in the border states and particularly those that actually live within the border region are in imminent danger due to the amount of the violent crime that is taking place on public lands. The lawlessness that exists on public lands in the border region is an open invitation to terrorists. The horrible face of terrorism is seen everywhere along the Mexican Border. Illegal aliens and drugs are passing through these public lands undetected.”
Thomas J. Cronin, Chairman, National Association of Former Border Patrol Officers

“Obviously, the impact of that policy [*] is severe on our operations,” he said. “When you can’t drive in those areas, it makes it impossible to patrol and enforce the law, and it transforms it into a sanctuary for illegal aliens.” [*] - “that policy” is referring to federal land management policies such as Wilderness, National Wildlife Refuge, etc. that hinder Border Patrol operations. (from a Fox News report. July 2010)
T.J. Bonner, president of the National Border Council, the union for Border Patrol agents
