When obama surrendered to the muslims,he had a lot of support and allies, too much in my opinion, from members of this forum.
I distinquish acts of government from acts of individuals. The pastor was being stupid, and I’m glad he called off his book-burning.
As citizens, we have a right to stand up against speech we don’t like. Our government has an obligation to DEFEND the rights of people to give speech we don’t like.
It’s like any attack on a military operation. In my view, radio talk show hosts, citizens, and even journalists have every right to object to a war, to fight for peace, for surrender, for whatever they want. Individuals should not be castigated for expressing their own views, or attacked for “endangering the troops”.
But elected officials have an obligation to support our war efforts, even if they disagree with them. Representatives of government shouldn’t undermine our troops; and they shouldn’t attack citizens for exercising their freedoms.
