You think that Government Motors will compete with Ford??? I, for one, won’t buy from Government Motors.
I’m no fan of Government Motors but they are competing with Ford.
I love my Silverado however I bought it before they became Government Motors.
It is what it is and the Powerstroke sucks.
Ford has been kickin it lately. The Ford Fusion is a great car, and the Hybrid version kicks the Toyota Camry Hybrids butt.
I love my Duramax and agree the Allison is a spectacular transmission. I have towed my boat down very steep hills and never once hit the brake. The transmission senses the driving condition and immediately responds to it.
Did I mention I love my truck? ;)
Um, I just gotta ask - do you love your truck? ;-)
I must admit that I do like the style of the Silverado. I don’t know much about the Duramax, except that I hear a lot of Ford people put it down. I’d guess that the Powerstroke would have better output if the Allison was bolted up to it. Ford’s transmissions leave a lot to be desired. My F-250 doesn’t put out enough torque going up hill, and I don’t have one new enough to add the computer system to increase the torque. If I have the opportunity to upgrade I’m going to have to make a serious decision about which truck to go with. I don’t want to buy from Government Motors (GM or Dodge).
I have a family member who has a Powerstroke.
He’s on his 3rd engine...
Impressive! Now, to apply these techniques to the 5.0!
I’m guessing that the 23 mpg is in 2WD form, not 4WD where they usually sacrifice 3-4 MPG due to the additonal mechanical drag and the added weight of the drive train. Still, very impressive. I’m lucky to hit 19 in my short-bed 4WD 2004 Dodge Hemi.
I guess it’s time to do a few modifications to my Hemi. I can’t be letting a V-6 truck out-perform me! :-)
Perhaps even more interesting. The new V-6 2011 Mustang has five more horses than the 300 horse V-8 mustang of yesteryear like 2007, 2008.
Well, what about that 365 hp, then?
This doesn’t look to me like a weak sister of an engine in any case.
I know that they have a 6-speed auto. If the gears are spaced properly, it could be a great setup.
On my Honda Civic Si, the first 5 speeds are spaced so that if I get near redline in each gear, the next gear is right at the start of the most potent part of the power curve. 6th gear is overdrive, with a significant drop in RPM, but it still has enough to easily pull hills on the interstate in eastern Tennessee and Kentucky without downshifting.
On the other hand, if it's geared like my 2004 Dodge Hemi with it's 3.55 rear axle ratio (soon to be either 4.10 or 4.56) and 2 overdrive ratios in the 5-speed transmission, it will be downshifting on the highway more frequently.
Ford F-150 -— The highest selling, most popular vehicle in American history.
They all scare me. That's why I bought a used Dodge from a close friend. It could just as well well have been a Ford but this is what he had, and the price was right.
My F-250 I inherited from my father’s estate after his motorcycle accident in November 2006. He had the engine rebuilt not long before his accident, though I don’t know the reason (engine damage, or he just wanted more power?). He also had a turbo and gear splitter installed. I think he should have just bought a newer truck myself. But, he loved his Ford I guess. He was more into his Goldwing than his truck anyway - only used it to tow his fifth wheel (which I also inherited). I would give them both back in a heartbeat to have my dad back.
Acccck! Short box! Ok, it is probably a 6.5 foot box. Just kidding, especially when you think about the turning radius of a crew cab with an 8 foot box. Take a football field to turn around in.
I’m sorry to hear about your loss.
I just lost my uncle, he was never married and didn’t have any children but he referred to me and my siblings as his children. He was more than just an uncle, a second father.
I too inherited a few things and a small sum of cash, nothing major. I’d give them all back to have him back anyway.
There’s no material object that can take the place of a loved one. People who are salivating at their inheritance have something seriously wrong with them. I worked with a guy who couldn’t wait until his parents died because he was, “going to be rich.” What he didn’t know was really how poor his soul would be after they passed...
Proper application of the steering wheel and accelerator can turn a Crew Cab with an 8-foot box around in a two-lane road ;-)
