I could never figure out why American Jews are not rabidly pro-Israel. Israel is our best defense against Islam. If self-preservation is their prime mover, they’re gonna have to rethink a lot more of their strategies, IMHO.

My impression (non scientific and from a limited sample of liberal Jews I have encountered) is that their impression was that they were the smartest people in the room. So they didn't care if the radicals at the bottom hated them, so long as they remained at the top and kept control of the Democrat party. There was an almost irrational fear of the Christian right. There was a need for scary people to form a barrier.
