Is long-time Virginia Democratic Rep. Jim Moran really safe this election cycle?

Democratic Rep. Jim Moran’s 8th Congressional District is considered the second bluest district in Virginia, and the 19-year incumbent has consistently demolished his GOP challengers, but internal polling conducted by his current GOP opponent’s campaign suggests this year could be different.

Republican candidate Col. Patrick Murray’s most recent internal numbers from the last four days show Moran leading with 32.3 percent compared with Murray’s 29.7 percent. 30.5 percent are shown to be undecided.

The Murray campaign’s internal numbers also suggest Moran has high negatives. A Sept. 22 poll conducted by McLaughlin & Associates found Moran’s support at below 50 percent – with only 42 percent of those polled rating him as good or excellent and 41 percent rating him as fair or poor.

“Although he currently leads Patrick Murray on the ballot for U.S. Congress, his favorable rating, job rating and vote share fall short of the thresholds for strong incumbents,” pollster John McLaughlin wrote in a memo to the Murray campaign. “Given voters’ dissatisfaction with Jim Moran’s performance as congressman and the current mood of the electorate, Jim Moran is one Democrat incumbent that could be unseated in November.”

This is one possible unexpected upset in Virginia. This race hasn't gotten a lot of attention but if the wave is big enough this piece of liberal trash might be swept out of office.

Here’s Moran’s recent meanspirited gaff saying military men and women aren’t equivalent to “public servants”.

I always considered my District 8 to be the bluest in the entire land. Though not from a “cultural” perspective (that would be San Fran Nan Pelosi’s).

Moran is an utter embarrassment to the House, hard left, personally corrupt and only a little less obnoxious than Patrick Kennedy (mainly because he’s not a drunk).

He’s had the easiest, safest job in all of North America: just vote liberal and pander to AFSCME and he’s had it made in the shade, year after year.

To think that a decent candidate might actually have a chance to unseat him is truly indicative of “hope” and “change”.

Not the smartest move from a man who has the Pentagon in his district.

Moran himself used to be in the Marines. He should have been separated for Borderline Personality Disorder. More recently his mind has been failing him terribly and he's forgotten his own past, not just that of the country.

Democrats in his district are, in general, disturbed individuals so no one has any idea what they are going to do.

“.... (mainly because he’s not a drunk). ....”

Let me correct that “..he’s not AS drunk AS often!..”

But he is usually drunk and obnoxious!

Gerry Connolly next door to Moran has a MUCH better chance of losing than Moron does.

That zoomed over my head...Wiki says Lepanto may refer to:
* The Bay of Lepanto or Gulf of Lepanto in Greece, now known as the Gulf of Corinth
* The Greek town of Lepanto, now known as Naupactus
* Lepanto, Arkansas in the United States
* Lepanto (Rome Metro)
* The Italian battleship Lepanto
* The Italian minelayer Lepanto
* The British Wilson Line merchant ship Lepanto
* Lepanto, a poem by English poet G. K. Chesterton
* The Battle of Lepanto (1571)

if I had to guess, I believe it may refer to the naval Battle of Lepanto (1571). Incidently, that poem by Chesterton is about the battle I believe.

I’m hoping that Connelly gets the boot and Fimian is victorious. I live the next district over (Wolf’s) so I’m too worried about Republican victory in my neck of the woods but I’d love to see Connelly turned away as a one-hit-wonder.
