A Big GOP Day In Pa

Republican Tom Corbett handily won the governorship last night beating Democrat Dan Onorato. The unofficial tally with 53 districts -- 40 in Philadelphia and 13 in Delaware County -- to go was 2,136,683 votes to 1,783,581. With Republicans retaining control of the state Senate and winning the state House, Pennsylvania can make the elephant its official mascot for at least the next two years.

The senate race was much closer than expected and not called until after midnight when Democrat Joe Sestak conceded to Republican Pat Toomey. The unofficial tally as of midnight was 1,993,704 votes for Toomey to 1,916,284 votes for Sestak. Exit polls showed Toomey winning by 4 percent rather than the 2 that he did, but silly people should know that dead Philadelphians can't answer exit polls.

They really need to do some thinking on the redistricting so that PA remains a red state.

So, we now have a GOP House, GOP Senate and GOP Governor here in PA.

Can we pass a Right-to-Work law?

1. The Dem GOTV machine in PA is much better than the Republicans’ effort. That can’t all be chalked up to fraud. The GOP has to improve its ground game in PA if it wants to hold its gains.

Can't agree more - I watched Dee Adcock, who had driven Schwartz bonkers - go down by 13 points. I think he had been probably been within five with two or so weeks to go, given how Schwartz got frantic at the end. But the GOTV effort in Philly and the burbs for the Dems was a steamroller for his chances - Dee needed a Dem turnout of 42 percent and his own GOP turnout of 58 percent to overcome the registration advantage - instead, I am estimating the Dems got over 60 percent turnout in Montco. That is insane. The GOP in this area has to end their infighting and get back to the business of winning elections.

We now have a GOP House, GOP Senate and GOP Governor here in PA. That's not saying the same thing as having an honest House, Senate & Governor working in the public interest.

I mean leaving the hard things like right-to-work aside, do you really expect this bunch to even do the little stuff of leadership like switch their own pensions to a 401K program or end their health bennies?

I'm truly grateful for last night's results but our work is just getting started.
