Google Veterans Day Controversy: American Flag, Islamic Crescent Moon Doodle Sparks Internet Outrage

Motifs of the American flag have become a regular addition to Google's artistic repertoire celebrating patriotic holidays but today's Veterans Day doodle has sparked a measure of controversy.

In the past Google personified its doodle with red, white and blue letters but the addition of an Islamic crescent moon-looking "e" has all the Internet abuzz.

Tweets via Twitter have included a broad range of hostile opinions about 'Old Glory' appearing with the shadow of a stylized Islamic crescent moon--especially on Veterans Day. The Google doodle is definitely stirring up fears of fanning the flames of anti-Islamic sentiments in America. Was that what Google intended?

Reactions on Twitter have ranged from shock to disappointment at Google's choice of doodle designs for Veterans Day.

LaughTech on Twitter enlarged the logo and set its caption as "Google says, 'Happy Veterans Day, Islam'".

AdrianTweeting makes a similar observation: "The Veterans Day Google logo kind of makes the "e" on the end look like a sinister Islamic crescent lurking behind the flag. Unfortunate.

Well then, there is nothing to get worked up over. Use another search engine because they are leftist commies anyway.

I’ll posit two things:

1) Bearing false witness is still one of the Big Ten, last I checked.

2) A lot of us are tired of seeing FR’s “News” section inundated with, and adulterated by, every random stream-of-consciousness contribution that someone posts to a some site or other that appears to look like an actual news site but is nothing more than a glorified blog. Associated Content, Examiner, “Business” Insider, and Market Oracle all come to mind.

Google is outrageous when they don’t make a graphic for a holiday.

Burn the witches! Stone them all!

Google is outrageous when they DO make a graphic for a holiday.

Boil them in oil! They are heretics!

It grows tiresome.

Agreed. Absolutely.

But there's a vast difference in principle between not desecrating someone's sacred symbol and the embracing of a philosophy, the seeds of a way of life, that is an anathema to, diametrically opposite o all that is America, the American way of life, to justify in an all inconclusive display that we are all one people, one nation, when there's a genuine, emphatic sense, reason to feel otherwise.

Some people really need to get a life.
Save the outrage for real controversies. Credibility should not be squandered on foolish ideas.

It’s not a sin, it’s a matter if interpretation. And the observation of patterns. My interpretation fits with pattern of anti-Americanism displayed by google over the years. That is a pattern even most crescent-deniers recognize.

Always interested in new search engines and stuff...but I went to yippy and first off, I can’t see the whole page, and second, their “About Us” is meant to be breezy and cute but comes off kind of weird and creepy. Sure doesn’t make me want to explore further. Your mileage obviously varies, but I’m not seeing the charm.

Do you know the history of the crescent role?

It was first made to commemorate the victory of Christian forces over the Muslims at the battle of Vienna.

Some historians laugh at that story too.

Since post 1 got zapped, I’m replying to 2.
What I don’t like about the google logo here is that it looks like a blend of American flag and crescent, and the result: an explosion with flash and smoke.

Yes.. and everyone knows the graphic displayed on a homepage
is the very best way to choose a search engine. What else matters, after all?
