The Michigan Legislature is considering legislation to prohibit young drivers from having more than one non-related passenger in the car. That's no fun.

With Michigan near bankruptcy and one of the worst economies in the US, I am very glad to see they are working on important issues like this.
My God, doesn’t the Constitution say something about freedom to assemble?
This fascism is totally out of control. If they can do this, then they can ban more than 3 people assembling as a public safety issue!

Teen drivers under 18? So how many people can such a driver have in the car? Can they drive fellow students to school?
If it’s truly a safety issue, then the risk should be handled through higher insurance rate, whereby, a discount is given if you sign a binding contract not to have more than one person under 18 in the car. I don’t like the Government trying to solve every problem. In this case there are alternative free-market solutions available. JMHO

We used to double date and go to the drive-in movies during the 50’s. My mom approved because she thought we would behave “appropriately” with another couple along. Obviously she didn’t know how much quicker the window fogging process occurs when you have four teenagers to keep out prying eyes. My daughter, on the other hand, told her son he could have a car but it would be four door because she was always going to be riding in the back seat wherever he went and she wanted to be comfortable.

But there are sensible reasons to limit passengers of teen drivers, whoever is doing the regulations (which should begin with the parents).
I suppose they could just have traffic infraction fines multiplied by the number of passengers in a teen driver’s vehicle.
