The Michigan Legislature is considering legislation to prohibit young drivers from having more than one non-related passenger in the car. That's no fun.
From Senator Mickey Switalski:
"Mr. President, I'll never forget a steamy August night in the back seat of a car with Patty Otto on a double date. This bill will make the double date against the law. I refuse to believe this Senate could be that callous and cruel."

Patty, did your friends try to tell you that Mickey was bad news?
With Michigan near bankruptcy and one of the worst economies in the US, I am very glad to see they are working on important issues like this.
My God, doesn’t the Constitution say something about freedom to assemble?
This fascism is totally out of control. If they can do this, then they can ban more than 3 people assembling as a public safety issue!
Get a grip people, we are in serious trouble.

Turn 18, drive all you want.
Teen drivers under 18? So how many people can such a driver have in the car? Can they drive fellow students to school?
If it’s truly a safety issue, then the risk should be handled through higher insurance rate, whereby, a discount is given if you sign a binding contract not to have more than one person under 18 in the car. I don’t like the Government trying to solve every problem. In this case there are alternative free-market solutions available. JMHO
that picture is hillarious, what movie is that from?
Paul Mazursky’s 1969 classic puts two couples and their relationships under the unforgiving lens of society’s microscope in this unflinching examination of marriage. After one liberal group therapy session, Bob (Robert Culp) and his wife, Carol (Natalie Wood), are convinced they’re open-minded enough to embrace a no-guilt approach to fidelity. But can they convince their best friends, Ted (Elliott Gould) and Alice (Dyan Cannon), to do the same? (Source: Netflix)
We used to double date and go to the drive-in movies during the 50’s. My mom approved because she thought we would behave “appropriately” with another couple along. Obviously she didn’t know how much quicker the window fogging process occurs when you have four teenagers to keep out prying eyes. My daughter, on the other hand, told her son he could have a car but it would be four door because she was always going to be riding in the back seat wherever he went and she wanted to be comfortable.

But there are sensible reasons to limit passengers of teen drivers, whoever is doing the regulations (which should begin with the parents).
I suppose they could just have traffic infraction fines multiplied by the number of passengers in a teen driver’s vehicle.
