I’ve learned a lot of things from my neighborhood.
*Neanderthal Man didn’t go extinct at all and merely interbred with Homo Sapiens.
*Reckless driving isn’t confined to teenagers.
*Don’t ever leave kids unsupervised in a pool.
*Why you should keep your romantic affections indoors where no one can see them.
*Do not encourage cats to come to your porch.
*The fact that 6-year olds know words I didn’t know at that age and which would have gotten my mouth washed out with soap.
What part of the world am I from?
Those are the worst. ...and if you confront them about their kids’ vandalism or theft, they defend the little monsters.
Also, once the kids get to 13 or 14, the parents start buying booze for their kids’ giant parties. It’s times like that when it’s wonderful living in a small town. Once a family gets a reputation like that, the cops swing by every few hours on weekends and break up the underage parties without the need of a call.
The one positive in my case — the kid joined the Army and turned himself around. He actually came by to apologize for being a little bastard when he was a teenager. Amazing what some discipline can do. Too bad his parents didn’t do that when he needed it.
