TSA Pat-Down Leaves Bladder Cancer Patient Humiliated, Crying & Soaked in Urine
The Blaze ^ | November 21, 2010 | Meredith Jessup

Posted on 11/20/2010 10:53:27 PM PST by FTJM

When I went to the airport today, I was put in the uncomfortable position of a so-called “naked” full-body scan. Today’s experience was very different from the last flight I made, nearly two weeks ago; at that time I only had to go through a magnetometer. Today there was no option — it was either the full-body scan, a humiliating pat-down or no flight. All passengers flying out of Washington, DC were subjected to the new procedures. So, like confused cattle, our uneasy line of air travelers was herded through the machine.

But my experience today was nothing compared to that of Thomas D. “Tom” Sawyer, a 61-year-old retired special education teacher from Lansing, Michigan. Sawyer was reportedly on his way to a wedding in Orlando when his medical condition caught the special attention of security.

As a survivor of bladder cancer, Sawyer wears his pants two sizes to large to accommodate medical equipment he must now wear. “I have to wear special clothes and in order to mount the [urostomy] bag I have to seal a wafer to my stomach and then attach the bag. If the seal is broken, urine can leak all over my body and clothes,” he recounted to MSNBC.

On Nov. 7, Sawyer said he went through the security checkpoint at Detroit Metropolitan Airport. “Evidently the scanner picked up on my urostomy bag, because I was chosen for a pat-down procedure,” he said. Because of his medical condition, Sawyer says he asked to be screened in private. “One officer looked at another, rolled his eyes and said that they really didn’t have any place to take me,” said Sawyer. “After I said again that I’d like privacy, they took me to an office.”

we flew all the time in the 70’s and 80’s, even at the height of terrorists hijacking every other plane to Cuba. I dont recall any measures like this at all, not even scanners. they put on armed guards on some planes and that was it. It’s just a follow the money trail, who’s getting rich off it

Every thing that could possible be said about this has been said....If I say anything, I will probably cuss and I try not to be a cusser....so, let me pick on the article...

Is this a reporter or a blogger? I am bothered that it wasn’t edited apparently:

“Sawyer wears his pants two sizes to large to accommodate “

A blogger can be forgiven because they don’t generally have editors.....but...... if this is a reporter on a conservative site, it hurts credibility when you get 2nd grade English wrong.

They even allowed us to carry our Swiss Army Knives, so we’d have a chance to defend ourselves. Now we sit like helpless victims. They needed time to dumb us down, fatten us up, brainwash us about fake security. The time has apparently come. Next come the trains to Siberia.

I know, we carried so much stuff on it was ridiculous, skis, fishing gear, I suppose people had hunting shotguns too. We need to not fly and make the airlines scream, make the airlines put on air marshals and get that Kenyan and his demented MacArmy out of our lives.

“Plan A”. Ask every person you know, who is considering or has planned air travel over the Thanksgiving and Christmas Holiday, to CANCEL or otherwise drop their plans for air travel.

Bring the airline industry to its knees during the most lucrative time of the year for them. Then sit back and watch this FASCIST Administration get burnt to a crisp by the ensuing public flames.

True, this method will financially damage the air transportation industry, but they survived 911... They will survive a month of total “boycott” too.

This plan also has the added benefit of hurting the Unions... ALWAYS a plus.

Yes, this is a planned assault on our 4th amendment rights, using Obama’s domestic army. It’s an end around on the constitution that he probably plans to use as precedent to search our homes and prevent certain people from traveling at all.

The good news is that the man who was arrested in San Diego for stripping down to his spandex underwear rather than be subjected to a search is the same guy who successfully sued the city of San Diego for false arrest for open carry. He’s got a plan and it will benefit all of us.

I think that we should all use his plan, wear warm up suits with spandex underwear and strip down at the security lines, then tell the TSA agent to look but don’t touch. Get lawyers lined up ahead of time, standing there filming the whole procedure. We do this in every airport and see what happens.

They read the polls - ones taken by dem groups - and think the country doesn't object. They are wrong on this...

I know someone who used to fly regularly - and has talked his company into moving him to the main office... in part to avoid excessive flying. The company will spend close to a hundred thousand on the move... but commented they will recoup some of it by not have to spend so much on travel expenses. Then there's another couple - they're driving to a Thanksgiving day gathering a few states away rather than flying...for the first time.

Only a few drops of rain now, but the flood is coming.

Wow, good!! We need some Paul Reveres like that! If I were forced to fly somewhere now, I'd like to think that I'd resist the tyranny too.

Just don’t fly

Easy to say, but many have no choice. Their employer is not going to allow them to take the time to drive from Miami to Seattle for a business meeting.

As expensive as flying is, it's cheaper than the extra man-days and extra hotel/motel nights, etc.

Nice shiny trains that lead to “Re-education” camps.

Funny how the idea of 're-education' camps has become part of the American reality. For the first time in our country's history - we know it's possible.

Liberal elitists might actually try to put us on those trains... not that far from what's happening in airports - not that far from being asked to 'show papers' ... not that far from being stip-searched to travel... What's happened to our country?

Agree — been boycotting flying for nearly three years now — now the agony has tripled — thanks but no thanks — if I can’t drive, I’m not going either!

RE: “So you haven’t been to Hawaii?

BTW, I traveled to Hawaii at age 4 without a plane. A Navy ship was used to move dependents to Hawaii from a ship departing from San Francisco. The trip to San Francisco was a mix of train from San Diego to San Francisco, then bus to the pier for departure. My 5th birthday occurred on the ship. The return trip to San Diego was on a Boeing 707 when I was 6. The terminal in San Diego was still on the east side of the field then.

I’ve adopted the same policy. I’m driving. Piss on the TSA.”

******************

One can easily go to Hawaii without flying — on a cruise ship from L.A. or San Diego or SF. It takes longer of course, but these days many of us have the time or would make the time. Better hurry though — they’ll probably be installing those blasted machines at ports within a couple of years if this keeps on the way it’s going.

I’m glad I saw the world years ago — no need to leave the lower 48 now.........

yes, there’s strength in numbers, people need to just overwhelm the system, either by not flying, making them do pat-downs and slowing it down so the air travel is in chaos, and make them arrest 100,000 people for “crying”, how is that going to hold up in court?
