I’m surprised the DU’ers were that pro-Thanksgiving, actually. I figured at least one or two of them would rail against the religious aspects of early Thanksgiving. That, or bemoan the fact that it was a reminder evil white men had come to ruin a pristine land that was home to the perfect and infallible native tribes.

Oh, that may very well be the case--on other threads. Today's DUFU only represents one thread, and that, written mostly by one DUmmie.

How times change. When I was in grade school in the 50s, our classes would sing "We Gather Together" in the days before Thanksgiving. This was public school, where we started each day with the Pledge of Allegiance and had no fear of thanking God for the freedoms represented by that Pledge.

We gather together to ask the Lord’s blessing;

He chastens and hastens His will to make known.

The wicked oppressing now cease from distressing.

Sing praises to His Name; He forgets not His own.

Beside us to guide us, our God with us joining,

We're having a small Thanksgiving this year... My Gay Daughter, her Transgender BFF, my Sister, and my Nephew.

Exactly how many place settings do you set out for that 'person'? One, two, three? And if there's a 'bathroom line', exactly who can 'it' go in with?

And. Do you let 'he-she-he-it' around any small children? Worse, do you invite 'her' to Candle Parties and what would you buy 'him' for Christmas 'The Winter Holiday'?

Clothing would definitely not be a good idea.

Speaking of Thanksgiving...yesterday I completed the preparations for my 100% FREE Thanksgiving with the "purchase" of a couple of pumpkin pies which cost me nothing. Here is my checklist:

Stuffing...FREE!

Gravy...FREE!

Cranberry sauce...FREE

Butter...FREE!

23 lb Turkey...FREE!

Seasonings...FREE!

Pumpkin Pie...FREE!

Wine...FREE!

Case of Key West Beer...FREE!

The weird thing is that a couple of years ago, before my enlightenment on the subject, I thought I had a great deal merely because I used a $10 off $50 supermarket coupon for Thanksgiving stuff. So tomorrow will be enjoying my FREE Thanksgiving dinner via coupons. Yes, THANKS to coupons for GIVING me a free dinner. That is the theme of my Thanksgiving dinner.
