Saw a commercial on FOX last night on a new kitty litter made out of corn. Looks like this commodity is being used more and more for anything but food. It is my understanding that new govt regs require as much as 30% ethanol in gasoline. This is a double edged sword because not only it is being used as a non-food product but also because this fuel mix has the potential to destroy auto engines manufactured prior to 2007.
A more correct headline would have read” Six Democrats at heart...
We pay 8 billion in subsidies to burn up 40% of our corn crop to water down our gasoline.
Nice work if you can get it.
Now why does Iowa vote early in Presidential primaries again? Because they like some PORK with their corn.
I don’t think Thune has any chance at the presidency but it’s naive to relate his backing of the ethanol scam to his chances. He’s backing the scam as the usual concession to Iowa that just about every candidate for prez makes. After you win the caucus there, then you can rant in opposition to “corporate welfare,” just like John Kerry did it in 2004.
There is nothing good about ethanol... or these six traitors.

Rather than ethanol subsidies, how would you feel about the US Government simply buying up excess corn and using it rather than providing money in foreign aid ? Not that I’m wild about foreign aid, but I’d rather see us giving them food than money that goes into dictators’ pockets and never reaches the starving. At least we’d only be spending money domestically and sending US product rather than money overseas.

Absolutely NOT. That would still place our government in a position of power over the free market. The goal is to get the government the “H” out of the free market.
Foreign food aid is another matter entirely. I’m in favor of private enterprise, and Church involvement with assistance from the diplomatic corp.
I see Mr. Ed from Iowa signed it. No surprise there.
