'With independents Romney and Huckabee both lead Obama by 12 points "

That should strike fear into the hearts of everyone. I would be interested in seeing a graphic that shows what states have closed primaries, and what states don't. If anyone knows of such a graphic, or chart, please post it.

Huckabee (for some strange reason) and Romney more predictably, are popular with independents. Those independents could have a decisive impact in the states that allow them to vote in party primaries. That's not good.

Huck and Mitt are VERY VULNERABLE if they were the chosen candidate.

Huckabee has his Willie Horton history as governor of Arkansas (remember what killed Dukakis?). His record of freeing someone who went on to murder again will always come back to haunt him.

As for Mitt, he is adamant and unrepentant about the disastrous Romneycare in Massachusetts. That will be his albatross.

To win a Presidential Election, a Republican needs to win not only a bunch of independent voters, but a lot of Democrats. An obvious fact but given the way people think around here, it unfortunately needs to be re-stated.

There are zillions of women Democrats and independents that have a deep rooted, visceral hatred of Palin. May be hating attractive women, etc. but it's there, and it's never going to be overcome, and it will just get worse the more Palin is over-exposed.
