I’ve never really thought that Webster would catch on. I’m more of a 17th century man of letters with my spelyng.

I’m sure it is true in many cases that private schools have strict standards for admission. Even still a study with their performance vs. the top performers in public schools would be interesting. I’m not sure if that has been done before. I do know that private schools have been largely successful. The school voucher program is good evidence that they perform better than public schools. Glenn Beck did a good job laying out the statistics in Arguing with Idiots. Its not surprising why Obama killed the program in D.C. He has to keep the failing public schools well funded to keep the Democrat voting bloc happy. Home schooling is another issue along the lines of private schools. Home schooled students have skyrocket – specifically in Texas. I’ll leave you to ponder why that number has jumped. A little on home schooling and private schools here.

Wouldn't have mentioned it if this were not one of those education-themed threads.

I always respect a Renaissance man in this day and age!

Unionize the Chinese teachers. That will eff 'em up real good, dumb them right down to Chicago levels of illiteracy.

Frowning takes 68 muscles.
Smiling takes 6.
Pulling this trigger takes 2.
I'm lazy.

This kind of international contests is one of Chinese government's national projects - one of the communist government's showcases. Of course these children would do very well. Remember those Chinese Olympic gymnasts? They are all part of national projects which Chinese government depends on to spread its nationalism.
