Thanks, yeah in the towns we had access to private clinics and decent doctors so one could get treatment fairly quickly, I believe quinine was the drug of choice back then, even now I guess too.

One of the factors that bothers me greatly about this tragedy is the fact that several African nations had the ability to manufacture DDT for themselves, but were coerced to not do so by threat of the withholding of US foreign aid for refusal to prevent their own citizens and industry from DDT manufacture.
