(Vanity) What's the deal with the GOP blocking the 9/11 First Responders Senate bill?
Fox News on YouTube ^ | Dec 17 2010 | Shepard Smith

Posted on 12/18/2010 4:48:07 PM PST by VictoryGal

I first heard the following on Fox. I am no Shep Smith fan but I was outraged to hear this:

"We can't give health care to Ground Zero first responders who ran right into the fire? Went down there to save people? Do people know what this city was like that day? People were walking over bridges, they were covered in ash, they were running for their lives, they were crying, their family members were dead. And these people ran to Ground Zero to save people's lives. And we're not going to even give them medicine for the illnesses they got down there? It's disgusting, it's a national disgrace, it's a shame and everybody who voted against should have to stand up and account for himself or herself."

Now, I haven't heard anything about this from Rush, or Sean, or Beck, The Great One, etc. So I looked into it and I was expecting the dumb Democraps, in their race to multiculturalize the military and spend our grandchildren into ChiCom servitude, were blocking this important bill to take care of the heroes.

I was SHOCKED to find that it was REPUBLICANS blocking the bill. !!! http://theerant.yuku.com/topic/36730

And I don't know why!

We need to call out jerks on OUR side of the aisle when they disrespect American heroes just as we would for treasonous Dims. I am very disappointed in Rush, etc. for not dealing with this bill -- either fighting for its passage or saying why it is a bad deal.

FRiends, what in the WORLD is going on? My volunteer firefighter friends back in my native Long Island -- solid conservatives all -- are furious. So am I.

You see, Cong. Weiner is a dem so of course he knows all of the right buttons to push and will play on your emotions while backstabbing you.

Like I said, this bill is a mockery to those First Responders, they are using the term knowing it hits a nerve.

I think there were a couple of procedural issues: lack of customary committee hearings and opportunity to amend the bill. Also, concerns about where the money will come from.

I still think this will pass.

I sure would like to know one bill that the democrats passed without republicans that was good for the country and not their union buddy's or big donaters. If the bill is good it gets lots of republican support...Not stupid at all. An all democrat bill sucks to high heaven....Obama's health care bill for example...DADT for another, Start treaty for another.

You must be a lot younger than I for I have watched and voted for decades...when raising a family I didn't have time to keep up on everything, so I looked to see who supported or didn't support a bill...if teachers were for it I was against it, if unions were for it I voted no. Sometimes your enemies can tell you what is good for taxpayers and what isn't by who supports it...

Also, can someone explain why NO ONE (I know the MSM won't talk about the heroes -- but our guys??) is talking about this?

Believe it or not, Jon Stewart of The Daily Show has been all over it the last week or so.

Someone posted a great line:
Democrats propose a bill to give reading glasses to dogs. Republicans vote it down.
Newspaper headlines: “REPUBLICANS WANT TO BLIND PUPPIES”.

Some of those jobs were heartbreaking to perform, but didn’t many first responders already get millions from different resources set up by the citizens of this country...I am talking money, not the grief and pain involved...We all were sad at heart for those lost...for some it was more personal than others. But I don’t trust any bill that democrats set up. It becomes a big slush fund for their friends and the source of lot of scams by scums....

Mainly because they keep tacking every imaginable piece of commie legislation onto this bill to try to get it to pass. AND to make the republicans look bad when they vote it down. It’s the old commie bait and switch legislative maneuver.

Wasn't this whole $$ for 911 First Responders one of Senator Clinton's pet projects? If so, it must reek somehow.

I KNOW people who were there that godforsaken day. Do YOU?

I know people who were there ... some who died.

Some who lived, including immediate family members, are hoping for BIG cash windfalls. These family members took civil service tests and waited on lists to get appointed to the FDNY for the sole purpose of running into burning buildings. They make excellent salaries and have great benefits ... and they want more.

A few months ago the Dems tied the so called “First Responders” bill to another piece of government spending that they knew Republicans wouldn’t want to vote on, they put it in the same bill for the sole purpose of trying to get the spending portion passed, counting on there being a sufficient number of people who would hear the words “Republicans against the First Responders bill” enough times, and would not think or seek knowledge enough to care. This is a classic Democrat tactic, appealing to the lowest common denominator of intelligence and substance, underestimating (in some cases, not in others) the intelligence of the average American.

It’s classic deficit spending, and classic grandstanding. Dems 101. And yes, you CAN say if most Democrats want it, its bad for the country. Its not that way fundamentally, but Democrats have made it that way by consistently supporting big spending, irresponsible garbage. If they change the garbage that they support, then we can change our perception of them. The onus is not on us to be “open-minded” about Democrats possibly supporting individual rights and responsibilities and self-reliance. The onus is on them to show us that they can govern. For now its clear they can’t, and so being “open-minded” about their initiatives is just foolish.

If you don’t understand that about Democrats then you should seriously consider whether you have a realistic view of the universe. Let me be clear: their philosophy is pure *evil*. And evil must be stopped.

I don’t know what happened to all of the money. I am sure a lot was wasted. I have not heard of my brother getting any payment. He retired from the police department after 20+ and now drives a school bus. He does get a good pension but I know for a fact he is not rich.

Yep. And they count on it that people, even uneducated and misinformed conservatives will bite on it too.

Their own pool of voters, they just take that for granted that they will unthinkingly swallow it.

GovTrack: Bill HR847

GovTrack uses Thomas as its engine, but I like it better, it is more friendly and capable.

Asking some people to actually view the bill rather than just emotionally spit about it is asking too much these days, and that goes double for the legislators that vote on it.

The title of Legislation proposed by Democrats is NEVER what the Bill says or does, I.E. The Dream Act is more like the Illegal Alien Democrat Voter Wet Dream Act.

No time to make sure it was the RIGHT bill. Before they vote for something like this, they need to make sure it covers the right bases and doesn’t drip with pork. They’ve only just begun.

The pleasure liberals seem to take in their own application of Orwellian syntax is astonishing. Every time they think one up, they must have a good laugh at the expense of both the people who take their nomenclature at face value, and those like us who see it for what it is and understand that methodology. They probably enjoy the latter even more, knowing full well how galling it is too us.

I think it all started when the Left got away with calling Abortion “Freedom of Choice”.

Then again, we have a Community Organizer / Agitator who rode “Hope and Change” all the way to the White House, so nothing surprises me.
