Dear Michelle Obama, The Anti-Obesity Crusade Needs To Be Fought Gingerly
Forbes' Health Dollars ^ | December 22, 2010 | David Whelan

Let me start this blog entry with a story. Last night I was out shopping at the Cherry Hill Mall. My family paused for dinner at the food court. I chose to get mine at Saladworks–which is just about the only healthy option. My kids and wife were with me but ate Chinese food and Subway sandwiches. An hour later we got home, put the little ones to bed, and did a few other chores. Then around 10PM I decided to watch an NBA game, which I’d taped that morning.

Before turning on the TV I made myself a bowl of ice cream. My wife saw me doing this. She knew that I had complained about heavy food intake during the holidays. In a half-joking, half-serious way she asked me what I was doing. I then gave her a hard time for giving me a hard time. I’d been eating well, had gone to the gym already a few times this week, and felt entitled to some dessert. I knew rationally, in the back of my head, that I didn’t need a bowl of ice cream. But I was nonetheless defensive.

Why do I bring this up? It’s not because my domestic life is that interesting. (It’s the opposite.) But I do think the emotions involved in that micro-incident are helpful to understand.

There’s a funny little dust-up going on between two 2012 Presidential candidates over the government’s role in fighting obesity–and more broadly, the government’s role as a public health promoter. It all started, as many important philosophical debates do, on Sarah Palin’s reality show. While making s’mores Palin dissed First Lady Michelle Obama for not wanting people to eat dessert. Yesterday Mike Huckabee, who’s lost 100 pounds and fought obesity while Governor of Arkansas....

Wasn't there a story here back in 2008 about Governor Huckabee actually having bariatric surgery on the QT, instead of losing the weight himself, as he claims in his book?

Ever wonder how Huck and the Mooch keep their figures so svelte? Three meals a day is now passe...so dig in like the Huckster and the Moocher. The 24/7/364 plan. Pre-breakfast snack, breakfast, after breakfast snack, late morning snack, lunch, after lunch snack, late afternoon snack, dinner, after dinner snack, late evening snack, midnight buffet and the 3AM pre-pre breakfast snack. Moderation is not advised. Enjoy.

According to the Higher Authorities, I’ve been doing everything wrong since I was 30. However, here I am, many years later—should’ve been dead 16 years ago according to my family hx. Eat your ice cream, your veggies, your grilled cheese sandwiches, and have a ball!

Only problem is Michelle Obama has no values; only greed.

Do you think that people who have bariatric surgery don’t lose the weight themselves? I have a friend who went through that last year because after years of dieting, and she did diet, she just couldn’t lose the weight. After watching what she has been through, I take offense at your statement. It wasn’t easy. I also lost weight but I did it just through diet. It hasn’t been “easy” for either of us BUT we are healthy and better yet...WE LOOK GREAT for ladies in our late 50’s! So go have YOUR gut cut open, be told you can eat only so much and see if your think it’s easy!

I weigh 340lbs, have heart disease, hypertension (those are part of my VA disability), diabetes, recurring foot/leg infections (have one right now, as a matter of fact) and sleep apnea. You’re preaching to the choir. I can’t do bariatric because it’ll probably kill me.

I am not saying it’s for everyone. I am just saying that it’s not easy to take that route as some people seem to think. I wouldn’t have done that myself but it was the right thing for my friend.
I am on a high protein diet because I have hypoglycemia. I feel so much better now than I have in years. I have always had problems losing weight on the so-called low fat diets. I gave up sugar, white flour and all simple carbs. The weight that I have been trying to lose just seem to fall off. Finally! I am still losing but a very little at a time. I really don’t want to lose anymore but I just keep eating the way I am and it will all even out!

Is it just me or is the Dear Michelle a little thick in the butt herself? Sorry but I never though of her as a lithe little thing, but rather clumsy and horsey. I fail to see her attraction... but then that’s me.

Notice that she never looks happy when she is with her husband? She almost looks abused.

I have heard rumors to that effect. :)

But seriously the way she acts around him make me wonder. She sure seems to want to get as far away from him as she can every chance she gets.
