“If you’ve been unemployed long enough for your check to stop coming, you are no longer counted.”

I have 5 family members who are unemployed,self-employed
,not eligible for checks. How are they counted?

self-employed and freelancers, like myself, are not counted as unemployed when we don’t have work.

My understanding is that if they aren’t receiving an unemployment check, they aren’t counted as “unemployed”.

Statistically they are “not looking for work”. Which is why I say the whole thing is bogus. The numbers of unemployed is not 9%, its probably 20%. They aren’t counting most of the unemployed as “unemployed”.

Officially “unemployed” means collecting unemployment benefits.
