Just because they might be expected to have attracted attention, had everyone known, does not mean that we ought to have reems of 40 year-old records of the tongue-clucking of busybodies concerning the parents of the guy who eventually happened to be president.
The formation of a traceable oral tradition would be a reasonable expectation, given the unusualness of the situation and the highly interactive culture the writer is describing. You can make a memory hole much easier where people are not so connected. The anomalous void, the absence of a local Obama nativity legend, is intriguing indeed.

The complete lack of ANYBODY coming forward, especially with all the hoopla over the issue is curious in itself...or should be.
