Apparently the parents were originally from South Africa, and the kid holds a South African passport.
To enter the USA with a South African passport, one is required to additionally possess a visa for entry. The same is not required of a British passport holder.
The parents failed to obtain the appropriate passport, and instead attempted the kid’s entry into the United States using a wrong passport without the adequate visa.

sorry but you're wrong, I'm from there and you do have to have a visa to come to America, You used to fill it out on the plane but now my 79 year old mother had to give her info weeks before so she can be processed and then had to wait for a visa. All of that just so she can see her grandkids.

The parents failed to obtain the appropriate passport, and instead attempted the kids entry into the United States using a wrong passport without the adequate visa. I feel much safer. I would feel even more safe if in response to this outrageous attempted invasion, Homeland Security would execute a few hundred no-knock warrantless raids, and confiscate a bunch of 30 round magazines.
I would be completely in my snuggy zone if Congress got together next week and passed a new Espionage and Sedition Act...
