Technology Transfer: During the visit of China's president, and as China's new stealth fighter takes to the sky, America's top jet engine manufacturer agrees to provide Beijing with state-of-the-art aircraft technology.

The aircraft industry remains one of America's strongest manufacturing sectors, providing needed jobs and industrial sales. Already buffeted by the heavily subsidized European Airbus, it may also face stiffer competition one day from a Chinese behemoth buying what American technology it cannot steal.

General Electric plans this week to sign a joint-venture agreement under which it will share its most sophisticated airplane electronics, including technology from Boeing's 787 Dreamliner, with state-owned Aviation Industry Corp. of China, or Avic.

The agreement will supply the Chinese Comac C919, which is challenging Boeing and Airbus in the market for single-aisle jets with more than 100 seats. The C919, expected to carry up to 200 passengers, is intended to compete with Boeing's 737 and the Airbus 3200.

Analysts don't expect many sales outside of China. But the deal provides the base for a Chinese commercial aircraft industry expected to eventually challenge Western giants. China has surprised many in its ability to compete with the West in many areas.

This is total insanity. Perhaps we should allow the Commies to elect the next President of the U.S.....oh wait, they already did that.

They’ll buy one or two examples and reverse engineer them. China doesn’t pay licensing fees, so Boeing won’t see any revenue after that - just ask Mikoyan and Sukhoi.

Insanity has prevailed in all our dealing with China, insanity and narrow, selfish commercial interests which began to take precedence over national defense interests during the Slick Willie administrations. And Republicans have done nothing to change that since (and did little or nothing to stop it as it happened, and probably helped it along).

0bama is giving President Hu a state dinner tonight to honor him. President Bush on the other hand refused to give him a state dinner when President Hu visited the White House 2006, because of China’s human rights violations. 0bama has no shame

What was the one thing that the Chinese lacked in building their shiny new Stealth Fighter?

"An Achilles' Heel of Chinese high performance aircraft has been engines. The Chinese have failed so far to produce an indigenous engine that has the performance they need for a world-class fighter."

So what is GE giving to China? Jet engine technology.

How convenient...

President Bush was pretending to snub the Chinese, just like Boehner is. Just like Boehner is still meeting with them tomorrow, Bush allowed all kinds of visits and PR events to happen with the Chinese.

Anybody remember the Chinese Navy being invited into San Diego by Bush and the US Navy back in 2006?

http://www.navy.mil/search/display.asp?story_id=25643

Our defense companies have been selling tech to the Chinese for years. They did it under Bush, they did it under Obama, and they'll continue to do so no matter who is elected in 2012.

Lots of money to be made selling to both sides, and it's easy to do when you have no moral compass. It's even easier when you use some of that ill-gotten money to buy off Congress and the White House.
