OUR FOUNDING FATHERS were rich
True. Most of them were rich by the standards of the time.
OUR FOUNDING FATHERS were ... racist
Absolutely, by today's standards. However, they did not write that racism into the founding documents of the country they established, except in peripheral ways.
OUR FOUNDING FATHERS were... White men
Yup.
OUR FOUNDING FATHERS were ... only interested in their own wealth & status
Nope. They had an opportunity to build their own dominance into the system and they turned away from it. All pledged, and many lost or spent, their fortunes in the cause of freedom.
OUR FOUNDING FATHERS were ... non-religious
This is a tough one. Most had an attitude towards religion that doesn't fit well into today's "religious right" vs. "secularist" categories. Not many were "Bible-thumpers," but then probably also none were pure atheists. Strong public expression of religiosity was considered inappropriate for gentlemen at the time. Many were deists or theists.
OUR FOUNDING FATHERS were ... Liberals.
You bet. But in the sense of the term as used at the time, which is nearly synomymous with today's mainstream American conservatism.
Source? Or did you just make that up?
My responses to yours...
First, let me thank you very much for reading & responding. And thanks to mainestategop for posting.
OUR FOUNDING FATHERS were rich
“True. Most of them were rich by the standards of the time.”
—And they put all of that on the line, along with their lives. When I wrote “rich” it was according to the way Liberals feel about wealth, which equates to greed and selfishness (except for rich Liberals, of course). Many of these men lost their fortunes because of the revolution. Take, for example, John Adams, who left his profitable law practice to serve in the Conventions. Yes, he owned land, but ended up having to work his own land at an advanced age. Also, Benedict Arnold, who lost everything because of the revolution before he turned on our country. Or how about Jefferson, I think, who died in massive debt where his estate was in danger of forecolsure for many years. They were mostly successful men, a few were rich.

OUR FOUNDING FATHERS were ... racist
“Absolutely, by today’s standards. However, they did not write that racism into the founding documents of the country they established, except in peripheral ways.”
—If that was the case the phrase “all Men are created equal” would never have been written down and agreed upon by them. Most of the Founders were abolitionists.

OUR FOUNDING FATHERS were... White men
“Yup.”
-Most were, not all. Please check out this transcript:

OUR FOUNDING FATHERS were ... only interested in their own wealth & status
“Nope. They had an opportunity to build their own dominance into the system and they turned away from it. All pledged, and many lost or spent, their fortunes in the cause of freedom.”
—More points for my “rich” argument.

“This is a tough one. Most had an attitude towards religion that doesn’t fit well into today’s “religious right” vs. “secularist” categories. —I’m sorry to say you’ve fallen for a lot of the propaganda. The “many were Deists” is a prime example. So did I when I was a student and the years later while I was a Liberal. Then I started thinking for myself and found information myself. And for your “Bible-thumpers” reference, that’s what people say who don’t like religious people. I’d hate to think you felt the same way. At the suggestion of the Founders, the first book published by the U.S. Congress was a copy of the Bible to be used by schoolchildren. “You bet. But in the sense of the term as used at the time, which is nearly synomymous with today’s mainstream American conservatism.”
—When compared to a Monarchy, anyone and everyone who desires freedom from such could be considered a “Liberal.” Your’re right with your last point, because most of what the Founders believed aligns with the beliefs of today’s Conservatives.
