Are passports still needed to leave out of Seattle? I think so..

Thanks I thought customs would be a pain in Vancouver. Are passports still needed to leave out of Seattle? I think so.. as it is a BC registered ship right? :( My understanding is that you need a passport to leave the country or that will be the requirement soon. The cruise company will have the latest info on that.
