You nailed it.

During the Clinton Administration, there was a federal “luxury tax,” on, amongst other things, new yachts and large sailboats. It was proposed by former U.S. Senator George Mitchell, (liberal democrat), Maine.

The rich started buying USED yachts and large sailboats, and low and behold, the boatyards here in Maine started laying off the guys who built new boats and yachts.....young middle class guys with young families.
Unintended consequences? The “luxury tax” was a disaster.

I can remember when Connecticut didn’t have a state income tax at all....that changed, thanks to RINO Lowell Ricker when he became governor.

Same deal in Pennsylvania. Until the 70s, no state income tax but the Governor then, Milton Shapp (D-Moscow) promised that if he could have an income tax, he would end the sales tax. And Shapps state lottery was going to pay for everything under the sun, just like Ed Rendells casinos where going to end property taxes.

Forty years later, we have the Shapp's income tax, and the sales tax in my county has gone from 6 to 7%. Randell's casinos are all operating and Shapp's lottery tickets are selling... and the state is flat broke and deep in debt. It wasn't like that before.

The type of professional Government creatures we allow to run our lives today are totally addicted to money. More money is all they think about. They never get enough and if allowed, will always spend more than they have.

They are no longer public servants. They are professional con-artists who always have an excuse of why they need more.

Correction....the Connecticut Governor who instituted that state’s income tax was Lowell P. Weicker, not “Ricker.”
