I don't want to donate through liberal "non profits" who pocket a major chunk to sustain their bureaucracy. What reliable groups/ organization can I donate to so most of the money goes straight to those in need ? Thanks.
You might check to see if the Salvation Army is going over to assist. They have a very good track record, much better than the Red Cross.

I suspect we will very soon be bombarded with orgs and they will be vetted quickly. One thing for certain is that it will be safer than donating to Haiti.

FOX just announced they have a list of reputable charities on their website. They must be reading FR.
I marked the Red Cross off years ago.
Whenever I donate to similar causes, it is through the Salvation Army.
I think they already have offices in Japan, too.
I have an acquaintance with direct ties to Japan and may have family there. Just sent a note to inquire whether family was directly affected by quake, but will not hear back until sometime tomorrow (unless she happens to be headed over there to help in person). Lutheran World Relief runs lean and mean when it comes to offering assistance of this kind, too. FWIW.

Southern Baptist Global Response is the best out there. They already have people in place and the money goes where it is supposed to go.

I would also donate to any legitimate RELIGIOUS group...usually the traditional ones...I am suspect of the televangelists on TV.
I would also think Billy Graham’s site Samaritans Purse would be good.

I had an acquaintance, a ystsems guy, whowas unemployed around that time and decided that he would volunteer his time to the Red Cross. Figured they must be able to use an experienced information systems person somehow. They were not interested. They had all the high priced salaried people they needed apparently, and no need for volunteers.
Catholic Relief Services = A
Catholic Relief Services beat the Salvation Army which got an A- and they are already international and likely already have feet on the ground.
