“Of the more recent bands I would add Dave Matthews Band and Hootie and the Blowfish. So fake and derivative.”
OMG! The worst (2) in the world. I cannot believe idiots like Dave Matthews. Hootie was a joke. It is earwash nonsense.
Derivative is the perfect world but U2 is an Irish version to me.
My problem is I tend not to listen to one genra or band or whatever. I liked Time of Your Life (I think because it was featured on an episode of ER that I especially liked). Then I think I like the band that did it and sadly, find out I don’t like their other stuff. I heard a song on Medium I thought was awesome, by Maroon 5, but discovered it was about all I liked that they did.
So...I guess either I’m very eclectic in my tastes, or I have no taste at all...
Van Halen
Bon Jovi
Lynyrd Skynryd
Pink Floyd
And I will probably get skewered for these two:
Jimi Hendrix
Janis Joplin
Sandinista was one of the greatest single albums ever made. Unfortunately they decided to stretch it out to three discs.
Insanely overated. just awful in every way you can be awful on and off stage
Hell, “The Dictators” were better than the Sex Pistols.
See my post #52.
I would put Paul McCartney and Wings on the list. Bleccch!!
Uggh... Boston...
Guaranteed to have me reaching for my radio dial in under 1.2 seconds.
The Beatles are the most overrated band in history. All they did was perfect the kind of prefabricated craptacular pop love song designed to get 14 year old girls hot. Everything that’s wrong with popular music today stems straight from the Beatles, every canned pop group since is another desperate attempt to recreate the Beatles, the addiction to pop hooks, cheesy love songs, and synthetic easy to tap your toes to rhythms is all from them.
Here, hear!
What is not to LOVE about the Doors?!
Your list and mine are identical, especially with the Beatles being the most overrated band of all time.
Always figured them second to the Allman Brothers, but Skynyrd seems to get the press.
Anyone who pisses away money to go and see a band perform live is a fool. ALL rock bands are nothing but crappy musicians with a catchy tune. I was far more impressed with the violinist who played for Riverdance, Niamh Ní Charra, who was also trained as an electrical engineer.
NO, NO! Nirvana was NOT overrated!!
Overrated:
1. Rolling Stones — OK if they just wouldn’t let Jagger “sing”; that bastard’s caterwauling gets on my nerves; and when I hear it, all I can think of is that tormented big mouth and flappy lips. Yuck.
2. The Monkees — the only thing they ever mastered was the idol thing.
3. Nirvana — aptly characterized as ‘grunge’ — garbage in, garbage out.
4. Lady Gaga
5. Madonna
I always wondered how Dave Matthews sells out multiple shows. I’ve NEVER liked his music. Same with Sting. I liked the song “Russians” when it came out, but if you listen to the lyrics now, he sounds like a fool.
Hendrix was outstanding. One of the very best.
I am a Rolling Stones, Allman Brothers kinda guy. Not to mention anything Blues.
Just leave out Young, and they drop off the list
I always considered the Doors a singles band. Their albums don’t hold up well, IMO.
