The Mark Center neighborhood is filled with Islamofascists and has an extremely high murder and rape rate compared to the rest of Northern Virginia.

It does, in a way, but it has a lot more to do with idiotic federal legislation that mandates X amount of dollars to be spent on all federal building projects for art (ahem, cough) so that we can all be elevated and inspired. In fact, this kind of forced art is what has created a ready market for connected artists (a loose term) who have an industry in marketing what is known as Plop Art (as in dog-doo randomly plopped on the sidewalk). In the post-modern world, the height of good taste is to enhance your buildings with meaningless heaps of scrap or gigantic nuts and bolts. This is simply more of the imbecile inspired crap that needs to be stripped from the already egregious federal abuse of entrusted power.

If we’re lucky this is someone’s idea of an April Fool’s joke. I pray, literally, that it is.

From the Naked Communist:

“22. Continue discrediting American culture by degrading all forms of artistic expression. Skousen claimed that an American Communist cell was told to “eliminate all good sculpture from parks and buildings, substitute shapeless, awkward and meaningless forms.”

We could all enjoy art in public and private buildings without having one taxpayer dime go to pay for it. It is called **consignment**!

The artist places a work of art in a public area and puts a price tag on it. If and when it sells, the owner of the building ( in this case the government) takes half the price. The artist gets the other half.

Doing this encourages the artist to produce work that is more likely to appeal to people who might actually want to buy it.

re: “22. Continue discrediting American culture . . .”

Ugh! They certainly found a piece of “art” that fulfills that particular point of their plan.

I never cease to be amazed at the atrocious ‘art’ that ends up in public places. I know art is in the eye of the beholder, but gosh it seems like they could find pieces that are a beauty in a wider variety eyes. I swear they choose some of that stuff just to aggravate people like me.

Who is the artist, who is his agent and who is the broker for the deal? I would bet that if these questions are answered we will see a corrupt reason for the government to use our tax dollars to buy this sculpture.

Maybe a connection with Valerie Jarrett?

From her site:

"...I am a public artist and I love who I am. Each project offers a different set of challenges unique to its physical location, the dreams of the clients and the chosen theme. The materials selected are shaped by these parameters. With mosaics, brightly colored tile and sparkling glass invite touch and stimulate interest. When using waterjet cut acrylics lit by LED lighting, viewers experience a warm, mystical glow. I may use laser cut metal figures to exude boldness and strength. Multi-faceted options, stimulating colors, diverse advisory panels, and varied communities, all are part of what makes being a public artist so exciting.

My portfolio demonstrates realistic and abstract images, as well as, two and three dimensional elements. Vibrant, bright, and colorful, all are water, UV and stain resistant and basically maintenance free. The projects usually start with guidance from an advisory committee and brainstorming and research by the artist. I design, fabricate and install all of my public art pieces. Many of the projects in my portfolio incorporate pieces made or driven by information gathered during community workshops. I feel the key to a successful public art project lie in the artist understanding the energy and emotion that the host community wants the artwork to evoke from viewers..."

Well. She is a minority, and a woman. If she turns out to be homosexual, that is the golden trilogy for people looking to suck on the government teat.

I can't bear this. We are REALLY going broke. I have spent my life saving, and it seriously is looking like the value of those dollars is going to go right up in smoke in a few years.

And we have OUR money, YOUR money and MY money being spent to purchase this HIDEOUS thing. I enjoy large, public art. I think it is interesting. BUT I DON'T THINK A SINGLE CENT OF TAXPAYER MONEY SHOULD GO TO IT.
