People in the United States are rallying against wasteful government spending as the deficit and national debt soar. Officials do not seem to be listening. Either that or they really like amphibians.
Having spent $700,000,000 on a new building (the Mark Center) in Alexandria, Virginia, the Department of Defense is looking to furnish the interior. Though you may think that the government might want to save, instead they had an idea: spend $600,000 on a sculpture of a toad that has a fairy on top.
But something as costly as this would be the main attraction at the building, or at least in the main lobby, right? Well, no. Actually, if the statue is purchased, it will be seen by relatively few people, as it will be located near bus shuttles.
The statue of the toad is not the only piece of art being considered by the Mark Center, either. It is one of four that could be purchased.

What does this ugly piece of junk have to do with the defense of the nation??? This MUST be a joke...or a payoff to the unemployed artist/son of a Pentagon big-wig.
An M48 tank would look a lot better.
It’s obviously past time to cut the defense budget.
I wonder if that’s a DADT fairy on the toad?
I’ve never made a statue in my life but I GUARANTEE I could make a better statue than that for less than $10,000. Hell, $1000.
$600,000? It should be felony fraud just for suggesting it.
Throw ‘em in jail.
Yes, fairy barebacks U.S. toad.
butt ugly
This IS an April Fool’s joke, right?
LMAO # 9 is that chain around the frog’s feet to keep it from hopping off ? Surely no one would steal that thing.
John Brennan:
"Jihad is a holy struggle, a legitimate tenet of Islam"
Fairy: "Obama and al Qaeda. Your new OverLords"
"Obama Obama shifts FBI from Counter Terrorism to Fraud"
Obviously, 36 billion is all the budget that could possibly be cut. It’s heroic, I tell you, heroic!
I may be wrong, but i'm getting the impression that some politician forced the DoD to spend some of their budget on this. "You want your funds? Fine, then spend some of it on this artist buddy of mine whose family contributed alot of money to my campaign"
It reminds me of the Dig 'em scandal of 2006.
I'm sure Obama would approve.
The Defense Department budget must also receive some cuts.
