Dutch consider banning religious animal slaughter

The rules of Kosher and Halal are established for religious purposes ~ and have nothing to do with the comfort of the animal. At the same time when these rules were first established the previous processes may have been even less comfortable.

We have since studied the problem of animal slaughter and learned more about how it can be done to maximize the animal's comfort while at the same time improving the sanitary conditions.

Those who believe God reveals Himself through mankind's observation of his creation would probably like to see the ritual slaughter rules updated a tad. The solution is obvious ~ come up with a new prophet that Islam will accept ~ as well as one all Jewish groups will recognize.

No doubt folks have come up with animal-centric rationales for kosher traditions, but the purpose of the whole business is the spiritual well-being of the worshipper and God.

You realize there are whole books of rationales for each and every element of Judaism ~ literally mountains of rabbinical commentary ~ a huge, vast body of thought on the matter.

Yet, the origin of the rules theselves may rest on little more than a story. For example one of the Patriarchs fought for an extended period of time with an Angel thereby putting filet mignon off-limits.
