We are born naked. Clothing customs are cultural, not genetic.
Correct; I'm sure that many of my ancestors wore kilts, but I'd be uncomfortable in what our culture deems a skirt.

Children were generally considered sexless until about World War I, and it was only with the Baby Boomers that dressing boys and girls like little men and women became the norm. For centuries, preschool-aged children of both genders wore white dresses; easier to bleach, and easier to change diapers.
