Vanity: Is a name change possible?
Posted on 04/26/2011 3:52:07 PM PDT by WillRain
Is it possible to change ones username? if so whom do I need to contact? I was a regular poster here for over 8 years but have been away for a couple of years. I tried to register a new username but apparently the posts i posted, from an (apparent) newbie went over poorly (though they were in no way violations of the rules). Within little more than an hour i got a "posting privileges revoked" message.
I have reverted to the old I'd to post the things I wanted to say, and to post this thread. but I would like to reconcile the two accounts if possible. since all the posts on the new ID were deleted, the most obvious solution would be to change the name on this account (this would also avoid the impression that I was a "newbie")
However, I can't find any link for where I can discuss this with an admin, publicly or privately. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I misspelled your old user name in post # 13 . Sorry .

You'll need the portable Cone Of Silence to share your new handle and password with the mods.

Shyster!
You know he/she/it must first send a money order in the sum of $10,000.00 to me, before he/she/it is eventually directed to you for the final payoff.
I hate it when you try to shortcut the system!
During the next official Viking Kitty finance meeting, your name WILL come under intensive investigation.
I doubt you will enjoy what happens next...

Did you retain your ‘gravitas?’ If I had known, over 11 years ago, that I would still be ‘here’ I would have been waaay more creative and original with my handle.

That was probably 10 years ago and don't think they allow it anymore. Don't know that for sure but I haven't seen anyone else do it.
To: Persevero
that's what I did - and some over-zealous admin revoked the posting privileges within the hour and deleted all posts.
if that account were to be unlocked, I'd be happy to accept that compromise.

I don’t know who they are - it’s probably listed in some nice obvious place I’ve yet to find. (I know who Jim is but I assume it’s bad form to go straight to the boss)

Ash? Meh. If yall are that bound up in paranoia then It's probably best I stayed away. I really don't know what the "Ash Saga" involves but I invite anyone who's suspicious to review my posting history under this name and see if it lines up with your suspicions or no. I have nothing to hide in that record.
There is a real, and rather glaring reason why i seek this change, which should it be approved you will instantly understand and should, I assume, allay your assumptions. But if not, oh well.

Must have been looser standards back in the day I guess. You’d think I’d not have reached 1,300+ posts if that was a major sticking point.

I'l answer this privately for now, as i do not wish to sidetrack the thread. if my request is granted (either of them) then it will be obvious
(and I'll probably be banned then anyway)

Where is it implied I don't believe what I post? Why does a name change which leaves the post history intact imply some breach of faith with those comments?
Ultimately it's NOT a big deal. Probably best I just move on anyway, but I'm a tiny bit contrarian on the point.
