This is why I am a Baptist. Each congregation is autonomous, owns its own property, calls its own pastor, maintains its own corporation, funds its own budget. Baptist Churches may cooperate with others and form Associations, or they can remain independent. But they can never be forced to give their property to an ecclesiastical authority.

Related story here. WARNING, the site contains at least 11 trackers/cookies.

It a nutshell: the C&MA sold a church w/o the agreement of the church members or leadership. There was a disagreement about the church's relationship to the C&MA.

From the link above:

The crux of the case is a dispute over terminology: Was the Chinese church an "affiliated" or "accredited" member of the MidAmerica District? According to C&MA bylaws, accredited churches can lose their property and assets under certain circumstances, but affiliated churches can't.

Amen. With the split of the Presbyterians, the Baptists will be the last ones standing....doctrinally and financially.

But I’m noticing many Baptists not challenging liberalism in their own ranks....so it won’t be long. Demographically, they are aging and not winning over the young (generally speaking).

Biltmore Baptist in Asheville, NC is number 35 of 100 fastest growing churches in America. They have a lot of young people and more are coming. It’s a Bible-preaching church with great music geared to younger people. The Baptist churches who cling to the old ways (music, lack of technology, etc.) will not replace their older flock. Young people want and need truth, but it has to relate to their lives, IMHO.

Totally agree. There are several brightspots, but in general, we’re not turning the tide IMHO.

I remember when TV shows regularly showed people attending church. Don’t know the last time I saw that on today’s shows, though I really don’t watch them. My teachers read the Bible in the morning and prayed. Schools put on Christmas programs, not Winter programs. Religious music was admired, not silenced. Now islam is promoted in schools and children are suspended for bringing Bibles to school.

EL CAJON, Calif. — A lawsuit was filed against a local school district after a 16-year-old boy says he was suspended from an East County high school for bringing his Bible to campus and preaching.
