MA Dems Remove American History From Standardized Tests

As if the education system in Massachusetts couldn’t be any further slanted to the left, we received word today that State Senate Democrats have voted to keep American History out of the classroom. This is an obvious attempt by the liberal ‘intelligentsia’, who have had oligarchic control over MA for generations, to ensure power by dumbing down the electorate.

Here in Massachusetts, public school students must past the MCAS (Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System) test in order to receive a high school diploma. The MCAS is a general knowledge test that was created in order to:

To inform/improve curriculum and instruction; To evaluate student, school, and district performance according to Curriculum Framework content standards and MCAS performance standards; To determine eligibility for high school Competency Determination. Think of this as a small scale version of “no child left behind”.

For years now, the Department of Education has been postponing the implemention of the American History section of the MCAS tests, but today during a budget debate, all but 1 democrat in our state senate voted to remove the American History portion of the MCAS test once and for all. The final vote on the amendment was 5-31. (Yes we only have 4 Republican State Senators in MA.)

This vote guarantees that future graduates will have even lesser understanding of our great nation and the role they play in defending it for future generations.

So, in the very state where the American War of Independence started--- American history will not be a required field of study.

I despise Liberalism.

First thought: I have noticed that when legislatures cut the budget, they always intentionally cut the parts that the average citizen would keep in, on the premise that the public will add that back in, leaving the pork firmly in place.

Second (and more important) thought: It is incredibly sad that Massachusetts, the second colony to fire upon the British government (salute to SC) would become so embarrassing to the rest of the country in remembering WHY we became a country. I note, and salute, the Appleseed Project, which seeks to remind Americans just how gutsy it was for a group of American farmers to have taken on a regiment of the Bitish Army. The Appleseed Project also seeks to turn cooks into riflemen by teaching basic rifle marksmanship; all that is required is a weekend of your time, a very modest charge for their expenses, and BYOA (Bring Your Own Ammo) (& rifle). http://appleseedinfo.org/

What the hell happened to New England? It was the birthplace of America, where much of our early important history happened!

If ANY part of the country should retain it’s patriotism, it’s New England!!

Can someone explain this?

-"What the hell happened to New England?"

The KENNEDYS ruined it!

The party of 'DEMAGOGUERY' (Take from 'others' to pay 'you') is the lesson that these New Englanders (86% single party controlled) have come to inculcate on their population.

Mass. and all over ... we lost the will to kill.

Soldiers know that a bullet ends everything about a man immediately.

His thoughts and potential evil die immediately.

Yeah, yeah, yeahhhh ... I know ... killing is against God's Law.

Every soldier examines his heart and pleads with God for justification and/or forgiveness.

No one said it was easy.

But even God took out entire nations and their thoughts, ideas, form of government and social structure ... just because man had become evil.

We could use some national introspection and revival.

The family that prays together, stays together ... that includes the national family of America

No history? No problem! Anyone who doesn’t know their history are easier to control and enslave.

A few years ago there was a big story that the teachers killed very quickly. Apparently most of the state teachers of English could not pass an examination on the use of basic English.

*&^% teacher unions!

.... last time I checked, it is FREE for women and under 18yo and active military! Great training and better history over a single weekend...

ymmv

You never did burn witches. You hung them or pressed them to death.

I live in Massachusetts, and based on what I hear from local teenagers who attend public schools, what is being taught isn’t American History anyway.

For example, some of the local kids have told me that Christopher Columbus brought illness and genocide to the gentle,peace-loving Indians.

I have also heard that WW II was started by white American racists who hated “people with yellow skin”, and that’s why the atomic bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Global Warming is caused by oil company executives who want to destroy the world. Kids in my local high school were shown Al Gore’s movie in 5 different classes, including various science and history classes-and there was no discussion about the film; it was presented as absolute truth.

Yes, it’s terrible that American History is being removed from standardized tests, but it’s not being taught correctly anyway!

The greatest enemy to the philosophy of socialism is history. And socialists, and even the proto-socialists before them realized it.

But history is terribly hard to destroy. So socialists attack it from two directions: to directly fight its teaching; and to corrupt it, to conceal the truth in a bodyguard of lies

For example, even in the 1980’s, the standard nation history text was almost a work of art for having almost nothing of historical value in a very thick tome. One egregious example was that George Washington and Abraham Lincoln had each one paragraph of undistinguished blah written about them; at the same time, Marilyn Monroe had five pages about her great importance in American history and culture.

The book was also unique in that while almost all students were required to buy it, no history teacher would use it, cite from it, or demand that students actually read it. Even leftist teachers found it to be utterly vacuous and useless.

The great excuse for stripping it of any information of value was that history is inherently offensive to *somebody*, so the book must be written as to offend *nobody*. This was taken to such an extreme that pictures were cropped were they to show a zipper on a man’s pants.

Yet this great effort at political correctness utterly failed, because though students had to buy the book, they and their teachers had to look elsewhere to learn and teach the subject, which meant perusing libraries filled with vast amounts of non-politically correct subject matter.

Even this effort in Massachusetts will likely fail, for the odd reason that “The best way to ruin a study is to make it mandatory.” That is, history classes will be occupied with students that *want* to study history, without lots of students with little or no interest in the subject “clogging the pipes”.

Because to those with no interest in history, it is both boring and a waste of their time. So resentfully, they waste everyone else’s time.

It’s called cultural cleansing. All communists do it when they take over a country.
