Sorry to hear about your situation. I have a friend who got a divorce and had to pay his ex-wife half of the value of his house when it was at its peak. He wanted to stay in the house because it would have been too traumatic for his Down Syndrome son to lose his home at the same time his family was being destroyed. My friend had to do creative financing to be able to afford to buy his ex out. He makes good money with a steady job, retirement and is sick over what is happened and he has no idea how best to deal with it. There are those that want to do the right thing, but what the heck is the right thing. I told him to talk to the bank and see if he can get the principal reduced and if they say no, go for bankruptcy. He has to provide for his son and can't continue to put money down the drain. All my best to you as you struggle with your situation.
