There is no reason not to, save one. Laptop drives fail faster so you need to backup your data off board. That may change if you spend the $ on a ssd, but even then there are some issues. Also check out the reports of mac’s thunderbolt tech, huge throughput and bootable from a raid to boot.

Do you think that will be true if the laptop isn't moved very much?

And windshields will shatter if you throw hot water on them when they are covered with ice....

Those things used to be true. Now, however, they are not, with modern equipment. I use boiling water to clear my windshield in the winter, and have 5 operating laptops here, and have lost more motherboards than laptops, in the last 7 years. Zero HDs. The HD here has been moved into 3 different laptops, when the laptop got dead.

We've been disaggregating stuff ~ although I use an IMac for my net cruising ~ they are nice.

The kids have several different sorts of devices ~ most fully decked out with massive RAM. Still they have their 1.9 Terrabyte disk drives to download stuff to regularyl.

The trick to this is to get a keyboard ~ plug it in ~ set the laptop up on a little rack so it can radiate heat. That way if it has a disk drive it will not get harmed by overheating.

We are looking forward to color e-ink displays. They will be more visible in sunlight than the present array of LED displays we have been using.

Now, for the big deal ~ taking a computer that tunes in HD TV channels. Will feed local PBS Channel 26 to my LED projector and we'll watch the Fireworks on a 100 inch screen in the living room.

We'll do DC first, then Boston, then Philadelphia, and then the rerun on NYC.
