Cut defense by 1/3.

We know defense spending is going to see cuts along with most everything else. I would be willing to cut it by a third if that meant cutting the sacred cow entitlement spending by a third as well.

It'll never happen (at least not until after the crash).

I’m not necessarily opposed to SOME cuts in the defense budget, either, as long as they won’t jeopardize our national security. But at least providing for our common defense IS a legitimate power of the federal government, delegated to it in the Constitution. Indeed, it’s the #1 reason we have a national government. But the big entitlement programs, Social Security and Medicare, plus Medicaid, Education, etc.—NONE of these powers are given to the federal government in the Constitution, and together these programs make up the biggest part of the federal budget.
