I let maple seedlings grow in my yard for a few years. Then I plant them in more desirable spots or give them to others to plant.
When we bought our property 20 years ago the previous owner kept it clear with the exception of a few maple, white birch, poplar, cherry, and other various trees. We keep about 3-4 acres clear and the rest we have let grow wild.
