That wannabe Youtube star was probably really disappointed. I love how the cop gave him his name and badge number at the end.

Good cop.

Ex Marine.

I’d like to clone that officer, or at least put that guy in charge of officer training here in Illinois.

Excellent video, and thanks.

Open carry of an empty gun in California is stupid. All a thug would have to do is hold the door open for the guy when he walked into a mini-mart or fast food joint to get close enough to sucker punch and steal the gun.

Interesting interaction.

I would’ve politely asked if providing my name was necessary, but otherwise, this cop was decent.

I am always leery of ulterior motives, esp. when taking down my personal information, but this videographer seemed more interested in capturing a “bad cop” moment and was sorely disappointed.

Cool cop. And guy was smart to not to provide extra information that he was not required to provide by law. While this cop was a good guy and solid Marine, there certainly are bad cops (as we saw in a recent thread).

Good cop.

Ex Marine.

I am not a Marine, but I am told they get touchy if you call them ex-Marines. Once a Marine, always a Marine.

I loved this post! That cop is EXACTLY how American Police Officers should behave with traffic stops. Everything he did was polite and appropriate, but I am a little concerned that the guy did not have to give any ID??? Thanks for posting.

I wonder how many of these types of videos exist but never make it to the public eye. Good news is never news.

There are a few things that went right here. Number one, the person taking the video wasn’t confrontational and the cop didn’t behave as if he expected confrontation.

As a US Army vet (the only real armed force that needs mentioning)... it is my job to piss off the Department of Navy jar heads.... so I do it without thinking sometimes, it is an unconscious effort. :)

All too often these people are deliberately confrontational in an attempt to catch a "bad cop". In this case I didn't see it. I know every time i see some idiot yelling "seig heil" at a cop, I want to kick their ass.

I don’t see him as being deliberately confrontational, but even the cop asks him something along the lines of “you trying to catch me doing something wrong?”

Why would an everyday citizen be openly carrying an unloaded weapon in Oceanside, CA with a camera filming the whole thing?

This guy is a ‘keeper’.

Every police department in the country should show this video to every one of its officers as an example of the RIGHT way to interact with law-abiding armed citizens.

I even emailed the Oceanside Police Department commending the officer for his professionalism. He treated the citizen with respect, didn’t get upset, and acted exactly as one would hope an officer would.

Came him the ol’ Bravo Zulu from this navy hand.

It’s obvious he was trying to create an incident...he was all ready for one. He may have redeemed himself by putting it up on youtube though.

I agree. But in this case what does “bad cop” mean? It means the kind of cop that violates our gun rights. I’m all for guys like Jeremy going on fishing expeditions looking to expose those “bad cops.” And when he encountered a good cop Jeremy exposed that also.
