If she would say “I’m sorry I campaigned so hard for McCain, she’d have my support.” J.D. would do everything he could to stop this. McCain insults the tea party and therefore most of Palin’s supporters.

IIRC, she never really 'campaigned' for McCain. I thought she only endorsed him, at one of his campaign rallies. In my opinion, she did so because he'd raised her status in the national arena, and it would have looked supremely ungracious for her not to do so. I read that J. D. Hayworth had commented that he understood why she did it, and didn't hold it against her.
