First, who is Denethor. That's a side point. Second, it is easy to battle someone throwing ad hominem attacks. You simply as them a point question on a specific point and ask them if they agree or disagree. For example, is their waste in government that is adding to the national debt problem and if so, should the waste be eliminated before taxes are raised?
At the point they go into more rant you interupt and say, you are avoiding the question or perhaps I did not say it clearly. Let me ask you again...
