I actually enjoy family time with my liberal relatives. I don’t want to talk about politics with them but I can have a good time with them.

In fact I’ve found that I can actually influence them a bit simply by being myself. I fly in the face of everything they think they know about conservatism which leads them to wondering if maybe they aren’t wrong about other things.

I wish I could say the same about my relatives. The only one left that I have any contact with is my sister and her mind is so closed my mere existence irritates her. And we haven’t said one word to each other about politics for ten years when she vehemently said “I don’t want to talk about it anymore.” It’s a shame since many of her views aren’t even liberal views but she has bought into the line that conservatives are evil period.
