ABC's Cokie Roberts said something on national television Sunday that made her colleague George Will shake his head on camera.

During a "This Week" discussion about the recent credit rating downgrade by Standard and Poor's Roberts said, 'The problem that we have here is the Constitution of the United States of America which actually does require people to come together from different perspectives" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

At least she admits it’s a problem. Obama just stomps on it and then flushes it down the commode.

IMHO, Roberts was profoundly wrong — about just about everything she said. However, Article 5 of the Constitution of the U.S. establishes the means for amending the Constitution itself (27 amendments so far). Therefore, it cannot be seditious to suggest that it could be improved upon.

The ‘problem’ Cokie, is that ‘elite leaders’ never seem to make countries work for anyone but themselves. Can anyone point out a country run by elites that isn’t basically a banana republic? A few elite rich and their friends and large numbers of ignorant poor holding them in power? Kind of like the modern democrat party...

If you’ll pardon me, but I’m not that impressed by “inside-the-beltway” types like Will. So we’re supposed to be impressed he shook his head at Ms. Robert’s obsurd statement? Sorry, but this Wizzard of smart was one of the establishment types saying this increase in the debt ceiling was good.

I guess it just takes more to impress me than the obvious.

The flag and the Constitution have become like the rebel flag to these bastards. Not that I mind the rebel flag but you know what I mean. We may have to become who they say we are, they’re out of control. The media were always terrible but it’s like Obama has put them under some spell. It needs to bloody stop.

Unbelieveable, but true.

A Constitutional Republic can stand, but only if the citizenry remains involved. The Founding Fathers knew that.

As a side note: “Secrets of the Koran” author, Don Richardson points out that the most vulnerable government to Sharia Law in Western Civilization is.....(wait for it)......Parlimentary.

She’s more Establishment Washington than David Broder. These people are very clear that the constitutional system required checks and BALANCES. In fact, they forget about the checks part. The constitution was designed to create a government that was very powerful when everyone agrees and almost non-existent when one of the three branches doesn’t. To check something, one faction only needs one of the three branches to agree. (Hear that Republicans?)

The Constitution, as you outlined, is the answer to our problem.

Roberts stipulated that it was THE Problem and so in that I made the point that she is ant-contitution and therefore advocating that the BASIS for our form of Government is a “Problem”.

Did she follow-up her point stating that the Constitution could be the solution with some improvement?

I didn’t here that she did.

If the liberals could only just disenfranchise the Tea Party and other Conservatives and put them in the FEMA camps where they belong we would’t be having these disagreeable differences of opinion.

The Constitution and the country’s credit union had been doing fairly well for a couple centuries. Has something changed recently?

I take your point.

IMHO, the system of checks and balances is the best feature of the U.S. government model. Here, in Canada, a lot of people prefer minority governments -- because it provides more checks and balances than we usually have. A majoritarian type of government can get things done faster -- unfortunately, those are often the wrong things.

Roberts, and her ilk, would be saying exactly the opposite things; if there were a conservative President in power. They'd want to keep Presidential power in check.
