The are-they-or-aren't-they gay jokes about Ernie and Bert have a long history. I think an image of them holding hands was carved by early man in the caves at Lascaux.

But could the two actually get married? Huffington Post reports today that more than 900 people have signed petition urging the makers of "Sesame Street" get married. Lair Scott started the petition

He was such a down to earth guy. Before there was cell phones. At lunch time he would be on a phone bank of payphones talking to someone if he met your eyes as he was looking at you he had a big smile and a wave. He touched my heart. He was a humble contrite person. I have met alot of the famous. None were like this man.

I hope he is with the Lord. Wether he knew him or not, I would tell my mother. She is gone now. But I know whatever I told her about people or names she would put them in the Divine Mercy prays which is basically for people near death. I truly believe he is there. My mom prayed and claimed that prayer before the throne room of God for hours. This little woman of faith. How many do we all know like this growing up. Thank you my Jesus!!! Amen.

“In this horrific age ...”???

These queers have a real talent for overstating their case.

Some fairy wrote in to our local newspaper, promoting the idea of OUR state now permitting “gay marriage”.

His rationale? That gay marriage would be a boon to the local economy! Oh, think of all the florists and caterers and such raking in the dough.

Un-freakin’-believable.

Falwell claimed the purple teletubby was gay. Whatever happened with the notion of keeping little children innocent?

Falwell claimed the purple teletubby was gay.

Technically true, perhaps, but it's the little lie liberals tell to make Falwell look stupid. Falwell was responding to what others had said for almost two years.

It may have started in early 1997, when the BBC, which produced Telletubbies, wanted to fire the human who played Tinky Winky for dancing in the streets wearing only a balloon. Gay groups protested and the Washington Post reported that gay groups have "claimed Tinky Winky as their own". (Washington Post, February 11, 1999, Page C01)

Next, on December 24, 1997, CNN reported that:

The Teletubbies also have a following among the gay community. Tinky Winky, who carts around a red handbag but speaks with a male voice, has become something of a gay icon.

Third, on April 17, 1998, the Village Voice praised the Teletubbies series for their gay Tinky Winky character.

Fourth, on January 1, 1999, in its New Year's IN/OUT list, The Washington Post anointed "Tinky Winky, the gay Teletubby," as next year's Ellen DeGeneres.

Then, in February 1999, after all of that - The National Liberty Journal, edited by Jerry Falwell, wrote an article warning parents that Tinky Tinky may be a gay role model. The article said Tinky Winky had the voice of a boy but carried a purse. Well, that was true. It also said:

He is purple the gay-pride color; and his antenna is shaped like a triangle -- the gay-pride symbol.

I don't know anything about the color purple and gay-pride, but the article was right about the triangle.

So Falwell pointed out what CNN, The Village Voice, and the Washington Post (twice) had already said about Tinky Winky being a gay role model.

And suddenly he was an idiot for suggesting it, while CNN, The Village Voice, and the Washington Post, who had all previously written about TInky Winky's status as a gay role model, probably jumped on the band wagon and made fun of Falwell.

I'm by no means a Falwell fan. Just wanted to set the record straight.

I just read this on FoxNews and nearly choked. The homosexual and deviant agenda will bring upon wrath, the likes of which have not been seen since Sodom & Gomorrah.

There’s no way they are gay. Just look at that photo; they both make fashion faux pas. The taller one is wearing vertical stripes and the fatter one is wearing horizontal stripes. No self-respecting queers would make that mistake!

“I thought it was dumb. Same with Mr. Rogers.”

Hey now! Don’t be talking ‘bout Mr. Rogers, he was my neighbor, and he told me I was “special”!

Now, that mailman “Mr. McFeely” is another story. I always suspected he wanted to handle the neighborhood kid’s packages...

Hmmm, Bert did seem a bit flamboyant and was a neat freak, but then again they had separate beds, just like my grandparents, so I’m pretty sure no funny business was going on :)

Really, I think they were just modeled on Oscar & Felix, the Odd Couple. Of course, Tony Randall played Felix pretty gay, so I think some of that leaked into Bert’s personality.

Ernie, on the other hand is a man’s man. After all, only a real manly man would be confident enough to sing a love song to a rubber ducky!

Last I heard, the petition was up to 3000 people... and they had already been told no.

Apparently the Sesame Street folks are holding their ground and not making their show a tool for homosexual propaganda.

We can’t keep little children innocent. The “progessives” won’t allow it. Everyone must conform to their agenda,so everyone will be equally wretched.

Just the latest method for the sexual perverts to sexually harrass kids. These people are all child molestors at heart and deserve appropriate penalties for going after children.

I've reached 41, born the year Sesame Street began, and never once thought they were anything but child aged characters. So are these people now saying not only should they gay marry (because they think they are gay) but that we should watch children gay marry on public TV?

Personally, I liked Oscar the grouch much better. He was always my favorite. And didn't Sesame Street take place or was/is filmed in Pittsburgh? Sorry, no gay marriage for muppet childhood characters!

Mr. Rogers was filmed here in Pittsburgh, Sesame Street was always filmed in New York City. I just turned 45 so I remember when it first started. As to Burt and Ernie, to me, they were just two guys living together because they were best friends and to cut down the cost of living. Nothing more, nothing less. It is a shame that sex has to enter into this at all. BTW, Oscar was my favorite too.

I see the cultural barbarians are hard at work (again). America is like Rome being sacked by the Visigoths. It’s feeling a lot more like 410 than 2011.

Sickening. My kids have only watched a few classic skits from the 1970s on YouTube. Such an announcement will have zero impact on them.

This is a good reason to ban everything PBS-Kids related from your home.
