Thank you for answering my question. Everyone else seems obsessed with this “open border” nonsense, and yes it’s nonsense because it was made 10 years ago, before 9/11.
But this issue about instate tuition is not, because apparently it (might?) is still the law today in Texas. I would like one thing cleared up, and maybe you can help me further: Does this benefit only extend to children born in Texas to illegals (i.e., US citizens) or, does it extend to any child of an illegal, born here or not?
I’m honestly trying to give the good Governor the benefit of the doubt, and to me, the former would be the only way (although even that is distasteful IMO, but at least it doesn’t reward ALL of the lawbreakers, just children of lawbreakers who obviously didn’t make a conscious choice to break the law).
So, do you know? Which kind of children get such a benefit? If you dint know, thanks anyway. I will be getting this answer one way or another.
A neighbor, who is in school administration, told me that most of the kids who even take advantage of this law are the good students who have been raised as Americans. They must have the drive to continue with their education and either desire to have a better life or are already from good homes where they want to continue that path.
He said some of these kids didn't even know they were here illegally until they approached the last years of High School and realized what their circumstances were.
Other than that, I'm sorry I can't answer your questions.
Perry has always argued this in humanitarian terms because the children of illegal aliens should not be denied a college education because of the mistakes of their parents. Opponents argue that even US citizens from another state like IDAHO would pay more than an illegal. Perry has no regrets.
I know the attoneys working to overthrow this for IRCOT. They needoil & gas plaintiffs that pay royalty taxes on this money. I guess that this stream helps with grant funding also. TX & NM are the only states that offer this BENEFIT ALSO.
Yes, just TX. Residents that attended a public institution for at least three years.
I don’t know about the Texas law, but the law they tried to pass here in Md. would require the children of illegals to have spent at least two years in a local Maryland High School in order to qualify.
Which actually means that at $14,000 dollars per student we would have already spent $28,000 dollars on this kids education.Probably a lot more since most of them have been here longer that the required 2 years.
Now a question for you.
Does In-state tuition cover the cost of a college education or is in-state tuition subsidised by State Government, and those who come from out of State are paying cost plus.
The “DREAM act” is for illegals.
