Yes, building roads is one of the few legitimate government functions... but if you are going to fund it with tolls, eliminate the gas tax and fund all roads with tolls. I am sick of politicians picking and choosing who has to pay tolls on top of the gas tax and who only has to pay the gas tax. McDonnell is pulling the same toll happy crap here in VA, but worse, he is even slapping new tolls on existing toll free roads.

The government cannot possibly fund all roads with tolls. That’s a silly idea. Tolls only work on limited access roads such as the Gateway projects.

Yes, this highway was planned as part of the UN Agenda 21 Wildland project. You have that part right. It was being pushed hard by Kaye Bailey Hutchinson, who is on the transportation committee.

Not all Gateway projects are bad. It depends on the reasons behind them. The original intent of these projects was to connect cities and ports around the world to move people and goods more “efficiently”, while limiting access to rural areas that the corridors passed through.

Limiting economic and commercial development in rural areas is a big part of the reasoning behind these corridors. My guess is that is what government control of the gas stations and hotels, servicing the the highway, was all about.

Like I said, Gateway projects are not all bad and supporting the initial phases of this project does not make Perry a One Worlder.

There is a Gateway project in South Carolina that the Democrats have left out of all their funding bills because Patty Murray, who wrote the funding bill (S.942) doesn’t like South Carolina (Boeing dispute). Wisconsin has also recently been denied funds for similar reasons.
