Unfortunately, cracks have formed in the iconic Washington Monument, caused by the earthquake that struck the east coast earlier this week:

“...cracks have formed in the iconic Washington Monument..”

Kind of a metaphor for the country, isn’t it?

Yup! We’re going to have to tear it down so some protester doesn’t get hurt. And we all know that we don’t have the money to build a new one or repair this one.

I do have to apologize for being one of the West Coast Freepers watching the reactions of Easterners with a bit of amusement the other day. We forget that there are buildings back east that are 150, 200 years old and older, and that they were never retrofitted for even moderate Earthquakes. The loss of a monument like this would have been tragic beyond belief.

Earthquake then a hurricane, when the locust and frogs show up I’m killing a lamb and then putting on my walking shoes because I’m starting to think someone is talking to a burning bush and I’m pretty damn sure the topic of conversation is 0bama!

Sorry, this is slightly off-topic. Is everything covered in Plexiglas anymore. I haven't been to the top of the monument since my youth, but I don't recall Plexiglas covering the marble. I remember being able to touch the crack in Liberty Bell, and being allowed to walk to the crown of the Statue of Liberty.

Now they have velvet ropes 10 feet around the Liberty Bell and fat park rangers (with powdered sugar on their lips from their donut) keeping the sheep back.
I understand that the Crown of the Statue of Liberty is closing again... this time I think they are installing handicap ramps or something.

I always wanted to walk to the top of the Washington Monument, but I understand that is off limits now.

No problem at all, there’s still one in Texas and it’s 12 feet taller, and open for business. The San Jacinto monument.

[ We forget that there are buildings back east that are 150, 200 years old and older, and that they were never retrofitted for even moderate Earthquakes. The loss of a monument like this would have been tragic beyond belief. ]

What would be more tragic would be if the monument were to fall or need to be re-built it would be re-built with “Kultural Koncerns” in mind and would become a sick monument to progressive ideals, rather than simply just re-building it baesed off original specs.

Look at the debacle the WTC site has become. All they had to do was to RE-BUILD it with the same look and basic design, they could have even used better materials the second time around and no one would have complained, but no they do the whole “freedom tower” things which was an employment project for city planners and architects.

Yes, my thoughts exactly—7 plagues.

What I never knew about it, but do now thanks to Glenn Beck is the color change of the stone, where building was stopped duing the Civil War. Called it America’s scar” signifying the wound that was nearly mortal to this country.

They never mention that it was the blacks in Africa that sold the blacks into slavery.

Yes; I have two dogs and eight cats and we all live together very peaceably. Thank you for your unwarranted concern.
