One place where ‘African’ could have come from - Shortened form of ‘British East Africa’ since that was the official name of Kenya at the time.
If you knew that you may struggle with what call a native from ‘British East Africa’ - so just ‘African’.
It is unlikely that the HDOH would do that. But someone ‘creating’ a COLB or LFBC image....might.
The Obama LFBC PDF lists his father's country as "Kenya, East Africa," which is not consistent with the formal name of the country nor is it consistent with Barak Sr.'s immigration forms released through the FOIA. Out of several pages where he gives his birthplace and country of birth, NONE say anything about "East Africa." Most says his birthplace was Kenya, although Kisumu and Nyanza Province and Africa are mentioned. Page 52 of the immigration file lists his race as "Kenya."
