I don't care this time if what I say sounds like self hatred. When one is wrong one should be called to account for it. The German idea of Marxism doesn't work. The German idea of Bismarck's deceitful welfare state does not work either (look at Europe).
Bismarck conceived the idea of the welfare state to take with wind out of the sales of the labor unions -- not to help the poor. When Bismarck proposed his idea of Social Security, most people lived to about 45 -- not 65 which is the age when Social Security kicks in.
I've never experienced 'grievance politics' on a personal level - it's seems unreal - like a person trying to explain the feelings of a person afraid of the color 'blue' or print wallpaper. Weird.
I believe you, rmlew - what you're saying has a ring of truth to it. And it might explain what liberals are doing by portraying conservatives as 'the other'. Elite liberals spend as much time trying to get their people to hate and fear us as they do working to solve any problems. Fast and Furious might fall into a grievance politics paradigm. The rabid hatred of Sarah Palin - and the Tea Party - could be the same.
It's powerful because - being based in raw emotion, similar to the emotions of an angry teenager - it bypasses adult rational thinking processes.
It's might be why Jews back Muslims who hate them - and part of the reason Germans became evil in the 1940's.
What an interesting concept - thanks for sharing.
