I agree. But this is a bunch of dumwads who thought they could engineer a covert op involving a cast of 100s of feds, plus informants etc, and it would all stay a secret.

We are in serious Peter Principle Land here. Some very stupid folks fluked into power. Don't underestimate their invincible ignorance. Sometimes wars start because of especially stupid actors taking decisions.
