That is an amazing statement that every rancher in the Hill Country hires illegals. Is there no such thing as Border Patrol or ICE in that area? I will have to let my friend the ICE man in on that tip. THANKS!

Round ‘em up, head ‘em out!!

I love pork chop bones too much to bury them, I just keep gnawing and gnawing away- love getting to the marrow so to speak.

You are just too amusing to give up. At first you made me very angry and now I just laugh. I have decided you are either:

1. Someone who has no idea what they are talking about and is making stuff up to support illegal immigration.

2. Part of what you say is true, but instead of a “friend” it is you that hires illegals.

In the first place, let me establish this. Not one thing I have said was anything but 100% true. I do not lie. And again, maybe in Your world, it is acceptable to call people liars, it is not in mine.
Also, I do not have a ranch, nor do I employ illegal workers. Unless Jesus, who trims my trees, was at one time illegal. He speaks no English. But his American gringa wife comes with him the day before he trims my trees. I tell her, and she tells him, what I want done. And he does a beautiful job. He does it so well, all my neighbors now use Jesus.

And again, you never asked me one question. You have no idea what part of the Hill Country I am talking about. The Hill Country runs from Austin all the way West of Uvalde. You tell ICE the ranchers in the Hill Country are employing Mexicans without papers on those ranches they are going to look at you with a puzzled look because they know exactly whom those ranchers employ. The local sheriffs and law enforcement know also. Many of the ranchers, including Mother’s friend, have relatives in law enforcement. And? They know. They have always known. They are not going to do a thing about it.

I do not support illegal immigration. You know this. Again, though we are both against illegal immigration, after having established that, we differ. And again, I am so glad my differences are mine and yours are yours. Just your self satisfaction in thinking you can do one thing about who the ranchers hire, with such glee, tell me you do not know what you are talking about. This is a way of life. It has existed always and always will. Not a thing you or I can do about it. Do you really think you or I know anything border patrol or ICE doesnt already know? Not gonna happen. Sorry to burst that bubble.

In the interest of full disclosure, I will say I do not check the papers of those my landscaping company sends to do our yardwork.

You do know, after all of these keystrokes, you did not change my mind one iota. And I did not change yours. The difference, I never, ever suggested you were lying. And I answered you with respect.

ICE is funny, if you watch the news you will note they tend to ignore something and then make big raids- chicken producers in the South can attest to that. Right now ICE isn’t really doing raids since our President has essentially stopped deportation- after bragging about his deportation numbers just the week before. Right now ICE in our area is chasing drugs with every other agency since they are not allowed to do their job. I was actually joking about calling ICE because that is a joke right now- at least until Obama is history. If I personally knew someone hiring illegals I would indeed report them anyway though. In a heartbeat.

Very, very few local LEOs or state for that matter do anything about illegal immigration anywhere so it is not surprising that the local LEOs ignore it.

It is still illegal to hire illegals, and wrong, and ruining this country and that is a fact. All the sympathy for illegal workers crossing is what is keeping the border open to cartels/terrorists and that is a fact. Hiring illegals is what fuels the cartels, since at the border all the illegal activity is controlled by the cartels. The same people are smuggling in illegals, drugs, making deals with terrorists, murdering and kidnapping. No one “has” to hire illegals- it is a choice, always. My family has been involved in cattle ranching since 1890 and never hired an illegal. Never. I know cowboys are mobile so it is indeed a choice everywhere.

The two cowboys working over here that are from the Hill Country said there are few real ranches left in the Hill Country, many are now hunting ranches, dude ranches, and many have been subdivided for acreage that some call ranches, but aren’t. They said they see it as a shame that the big cattle ranches of the past are gone over there and that is why they are here. They also told me anyone over there that wanted to hire American cowboys can certainly do it, and is doing it- so again it really is a choice.

Your cowboys are talking about a different hill country than I am. The ranches that have been there forever are still there and working ranches. I do not know to what area they are referring. I called a best friend’s brother who is going to know alot more than I do..(I have a cat that knows more than I do)..he is a deputy for Texas Cattleman’s Assoc...his specialty is rustling. He said there are no dude ranches popping up around the hill country. You might find a couple in Round Rock, a couple in New Braunfels then of course, Bandera. There is one large exotic ranch that was sold to a wealthy family from Houston about 20 years ago. I did see Axis Deer on two ranches in the last year, but they are on working ranches. I do not know for what purpose as they are not going to be for hunting on a working ranch I would not think.

There are alot of American cowboys working up there. There are also alot of Mexican cowboys working up there. There always has been, always will be. And actually deportation is at its highest in the last 1 1/2 years. That is according to the Border Patrol.

I would be interested in knowing what part of the hill country your cowboys are talking about. There is no way any of these ranches are going to be subdivided. As I said, there are as many large working ranches there as there has always been. And no dude ranches. Exotics, yes ..a few. Not many.

There are two ranches I know that are no longer working ranches. Both due to the death of the man who owned the ranch and one..his wife did not want to run the ranch...both had Longhorns. The first one was not in the hill country..the other was..the family also did not want the expense and work of running Longhorns. I do not have to tell you they can be a handful.

If you ask someone with ICE they should tell you that deportation is way up in the last 1 1/2 years.

You are the one that said there was no way they could hire American cowboys in that area- no way “gringos” would do that work. That is what riled me up, I knew it wasn’t true. Now you admit there are cowboys there...as I said all along hiring illegals is a choice.

I never said deportations weren’t up. What I said is right after the announcement it was announced that now deportations are slowing down dramatically- in fact they only want to deport those that have committed serious crimes here and leave the others alone. I found it ironic that the Obama administration would brag about deportations being up and then say they didn’t want to deport hardly any now.

I don’t know what part of the Hill Country the two cowboys here are from, didn’t think to ask them. I don’t see them often but I will ask them when I see them again. They have been here several years- before the economy got bad so their stories of ranches selling and what not are not recent stories, likely happened before the real estate crisis. I took it what they meant was in their lifetime (both in their mid-late 20s) they have seen a lot of changes in the Hill Country as far as ranches breaking up and becoming dude or hunting ranches- not that it is happening right now. You can indeed hunt on cattle ranches- the large ranches here do hunts for deer, antelope and one also does hog and buffalo hunting.
